The avatar is the number 1 thing that gets someone to check out a Vtuber, if it wasnt they'd just watch a normal streamer. The majority of people who watch Vtubers are men, therefore they'll always gravitate towards what they find appealing (attractive women). Nobody is saying personality doesnt matter, but the majority of the audience arent looking for a male vtuber no matter how nice their personality is. This isnt to say they dont want to watch male streamers in general; but when they do, they'll watch a normal streamers for the best friend experience (as opposed to the GFE)

Japan has always had male vtubers of success even before Nijisanji came along, but the scene here is basically all male hobbyist fans. We don't have the relative normie share of the viewership that propped up Akaji or Bachaaru.

The vtuber scene is far from saturated and people must be stupid to think so. It would be very easy to spot an unused niche and hop into this at an advantage over the generic hornymeme tubers you reference here. Compared to irl cam streamers vtubing is like a newly built city ready to be populated. Think of how basic most of the content put out is in most cases, I'm sure anons could be more creative and entertaining and have a massive advantage especially over the toxic twittertubers who do nothing but complain never actually stream

vtubing is still just streaming, but with an anime avatar. you're gonna have to approach it as just a standard facecam stream and work on being an entertainer. you can't just replace facecams with an png/live2D and claim it's a new field.

To the contrary, many fairly successful vtubers do exactly the same kind of shit as normal streamers with the only gimmick being the avatar. Some would absolutely not have a following without an avatar. I really do think that the simple action of using an avatar gives one the advantage of being grouped in with this new niche and not as one of the unending irl facecam streamers.

I would however say that it is best to use the avatar gimmick in creative ways and do things an irl cam streamer could not do so as to truly become part of a "new field". I think many vtubers who don't play into the concept or are not particularly entertaining without playing into it will go far, even if they have followings now. The ones who have longterm success will either use the medium creatiely, just be entertaining regardless, or optimally will be both
