It didn't use to be like this. Even if everybody always loved drama, people used to like vtubers primarily because it was a pleasant and enjoyable experience to find chuubas you like and follow their activities. When did everyone become so sour and cynical? What happened to the love? I remember there used to be much more love. I'm sure of it.

I agree it was different, but I believe the same ratio of dramalovers to funlovers was there on /jp/. The difference was that, when confined to one, two, and eventually four threads, it wasn't enough space for their single posts to matter as much. They were less visible during active streams, as they would be drowned out by fun commentary. Dead hours would then be a high tide of idle anti chatter and drama.
Having an entire board has meant that, instead of being drowned out within one of a few very active threats, the dramashitters instead have the freedom to make entirely separate threads, in greater numbers, and rove around the catalog cross-posting and shitting things up in their dozens of separate threads, while honest fans try to get on with discussion in their isolated generals.

On the surface generals look like the place where people still preserve the love, but they've also become bunkers of complacence where people can talk about what they like while letting the rest of the board burn, something they wouldn't have allowed for back when it was all contained in the same one or two threads.
