It's just a bit of a weird uncharted territory. Vtubers exist 99% in the 2D Vtuber world, and for a lot of people any connection to 3D makes them feel "fake" or not fully committed, along similar lines as chuubas who also stream or post images of themselves IRL under the same name. There's also a danger of attracting the (potentially shit) fanbases of anyone the collab with.

Personally I had no issue with the Trash Taste episode, and IronMouse regularly collabs with CDawg without any issues; it's fine if they're reasonably careful and don't just collab with random popular e-celebs without considering the potential risks.

I think the Trash Taste appearance (at least, Joey and Gigguk) was fine for the most part, though I am biased because I am a regular listener, but anything regular would be a no go. Hololive IS in fact a customer-employee relationship in every way shape or form. If the Holos don't make money, they WILL get fired. It's a good thing that they're all making bank, but that doesn't change the reality of the situation.
