If you're good and play games that people actually watch, people will follow you and you'll get steady growth on the year chart. The marketing on social media part is optional and I've never done it

Personally I believe that part of being a good content creator is being able to do the things that help you grow successfully, not just being haha funny streamer to nobody. You've got people like Kabhaal, Kenji (an extreme case), and Randon who clearly came into the scene with a plan and executed it pretty well. Randon flubbed his early growth by getting stuck on the whole YT streaming meme and he's still doing great because he had a plan and learned how to "create content" and not just stream.

It's basically he difference between a good entertainer and a good content creator.

I've tried the whole make clips and post to Tiktok approach only to eventually give up because my shorts don't even make it to the FYP. the whole point is to make it look presentable and get people to follow you not just watch it and be done with it. rarely will you have a moment on a stream be interesting on its own unless you spice it up with editing like how commentary spices up gameplay. I had a friend of mine get frustrated that their tiktoks weren't getting promoted. What did she do? Make a new account and her third tiktok exploded when she literally didn't do anything different from her old content. Your first tiktok will explode and the next one will probably flop but anything after those two is purely lottery on whether or not they make it to the FYP (which is literally the key to growth on tiktok). If it's not on the FYP it fails not matter what it is.

From what I've seen some of the smaller vtubers put in a lot of effort to make creative streams, emotes, or redeems. That and they can do more wacky shit (see Punished Batat) than larger streamers.

Autism time but here you go.
If she wants inspiration from other overlays then I'm a fan of Josabelles overlay.
Clean look, darker (dark overlays are way easier on the eyes than bright ones), follower/sub/donos are non-intrusive and chat is a decent size for people who want it. In pic related she made her model a bit too big, but it wasn't covering too much thankfully.
Yoclesh's overlays are top-tier too, although she does go no-overlay during a lot of games now which is always an option.
Letania has a great overlay size, easy to see chat but she just needs to remove the scrolling bar on "latest tribute" since it's distracting. In fact that's something that goes for most peoples overlays, don't have annoying stuff moving on the overlay, it should be completely static. For your girl melanie, the cat moving in the corner is distracting for no reason AND it's covering part of the game. Also, don't put the dono bar on the gameplay screen either, if possible absolutely nothing should cover the gamescreen except maybe a small part of your model if you have no choice.
