Yet another electro-swing J-rap bop about how much she loves murder, designed to lull the listener into thinking she's going to continue the same narrative from the previous song by fitting it almost perfectly. Like Q, it's a mostly story about kicking her guests' asses before joining forces with them at the very end. Like Dead On Arrival, it's about how the inevitability of death and how nobody can stop the villain she's portraying from murdering her own fans...but her new pals have other plans.

After Fra's rap (which is more aggressive than anything Mori's voice can put out) bragging about how they're too fly to die, Ci politely refuses to be her adversary or victim. That does complicate things, yeah, but having a long stretch of time between songs (and releasing the first two as singles) doesn't prevent her from having some kind of broader purpose behind how they're arranged, or how the later ones were made. As far as we know Graveyard Shift was the first by far, and it might even have been finished a long time before its first release. That's why I've centered my reading of the entire album on it, under the assumption that "UnAlive" was pulled from her, that the relatively late DOA was meant to be a prequel to it, that she had only partially where she was taking things at the time of streaming Scuffed Up Age, and that she built the album around Graveyard Shift with the Elliot pieces as bookends to tie it all together.
I'm curious to hear from her what the order of those later songs actually was; hopefully she mentions it tomorrow.

So at this point, the progression we've seen from [Masked Mori, the Mortal Enemy of Hololive], with her edgy electroswing posturing, to [Cute J-Rock Idol Calli], who finally fulfills the sonic expectations set by UnAlive's weeb OP preview vibes by giving us a song that wouldn't sound out-of-place on the HoloFes stage. Okay, not really, but HUGE W, much like the midpoint of a TRIGGER show, is designed to intentionally shatter the status quo, bring previously ignored plot threads to the forefront, and disorient the audience with as big and bombastic of a tonal, technical, and stylistic shift as possible. This is Satsuki impaling her mom and learning about her sister. This is Simon ending up on death row while his fiancee declares she's gonna destroy the earth. It's the second half where shit gets way less iconic, but much more intense, and WAY more inscrutable.
Sound-wise, HUGE W is blatantly a sequel to GUH, and Mori herself called it something like "a shitpost that goes way too hard". Story-wise, it's a shocking regression back to the edgy villain shit we had supposedly overcome in GS & LLD, but also an escalation.

She's no longer talking like an anime villain, nor a sleazy casino mistress, but like chaos incarnate, an unhinged monster who's abandoned both her past convictions and her present demands for propriety.

But there's one major difference between it and its prior incarnations like Guh (which pretends to be about dunking on haters but is actually about how her own self-hate is so bad they seem like a joke in comparison) or Dead Beats (Where she talks up being an unstoppable badass who will never sell out but still succeed, but it's all undercut by her own amateurism, immature thoughts, and self-depreciation).

I like the album, it's great.
Unalive i hated the first time because i was hearing it first with the 3d MV. Listening to it on its own actually let me focus on it and i ended up liking it. Her range has definitely improved and its amazing. Though i wish some parts of it where she sings highest notes i feel would've been done better if it wasn't that high for so long.
The MV... oh god the MV... please calli, give people more time to finish their work. I understand what they were going for and the imagery, which i really liked. but everything about how the camera is set/moved and how she was animated has been jarring or horrible.

Nonoru has done great work previously, but she was trying something completely new to her with this project in the fight scenes. Couple that with what I'm fairly confident is Mori's ethos with anybody else's work that isn't directly tied to her own creative process being figuratively taping it to the fridge as long she believes they tried their best (see also: Saruei daki), and you end up with a product that's honest, but wanting for more. And it's not bad. It looks really nice outside of those scenes.

It's one of those things that you'll have to listen to and come up with your fan theories in regards to, just because I can't really touch it. But I think you guys will have a fun time debunking that one.
Well fuck. This is the one I'm the least confident on by far, and it just so happens to be the one she'll never confirm or deny. Go big or go home, I guess:
So right after overwhelming everybody with the high-effort shitpost and completely upending the first half of the album, the listener's worn out, they need a rest, and they need some time to gather their thoughts.
The one thing I'm sure of is that this is a song from Mori, to Mori.

It's referring back to her split soul from UnAlive, playing with perspective in the same way that her other slow somber song did.

That's not a reference to Kiara, it's a side of herself that she's struggled to accept until now. Whether it's a reconciliation with the dark side she fought. There's a good chance that it ties into songs and story arcs beyond the scope of this split that I'm not willing to eat a ban over right now, and maybe that's the conclusion Calli came to as well. But if I had to narrow it down to just one thing, I'd say:
If End of a Life was a requiem for her old soul, Resting Power is a serenade for her new body.
It's a song pointed at her Persona, both in the theatrical/Jungian sense of a public-facing "alter-ego", AND in the Atlus Videogame Company sense of an evil version of yourself that can never be exorcised, only tamed by admitting that she's actually just you deep down, and once you learn to love her you can use her as your stand and change the world.
It reminds me of something Pekora mentioned on stream before - where the longer she does this job, the harder it gets in her daily life to not say "peko", or to behave like a rascally anime blob in contexts that no longer fit it. Calli has continually been shocked at just how much streaming calms her down, just how much she likes doing girly shit for deadbeats that used to (and to some extent, still kinda does) disgust her. How she keeps getting shocked at how much longer she can stream and how much harder it is to stop and--OH WAIT

I think the album came out great. I don’t care for UnAlive but I love every other song on the album. The mv on the other hand I definitely feel suffered from her being too busy. It feels a bit amateurish.

Watching Fauna, I'm getting flashbacks to Mori sync testing live on stream for karaoke. I kinda miss those days.

Re-listening to the album on my computer speakers rather than my phone, and I definitely like all the songs infinitely more this time around. Can definitely appreciate the layers on the tracks and the texture of her voice a lot better. I think Huge W still has the issue of understanding the lyrics, however the song itself still sounds great if that makes sense. I think W and Graveyard Shift’s inclusion feels like more so they can exist in a physical form when the inevitable release comes though.

Anyway, the first half of this is casting the doom and gloom we've been stuck in so far into doubt, positing that maybe there's enough out there in this wretched life that we can learn to treasure it and appreciate it, rather than just tolerate it.

But that doesn't change the reality she's been dancing around all album. The pressure being our idol is probably too much for her to handle, even if she tries her best. And then as the horns, strings, pads, and chords swell into an unbearable suspense, Mori finally moves past self-absorption and self-depreciation in one fell swoop, casting aside her anxieties over what's the right way to curate her story.

She's staying because she loves us more than she could ever hate herself.

Mori knew from the moment she decided on this UnAlive being a reply to End of a Life that it was going to need to wrap it all up with an Elliot Hsu piece, but one that replaces the childlike nostalgia of Ibasho (the story of a journey she finished a long time ago) for a more mature, more beautiful track (the story of a journey she just started, one that probably can't ever be finished).
Because a fantasy song was the only way she could ever properly follow up on the blunt force trauma that was End of a Life. Resurrection, reincarnation, idols, hope, and love, are the stuff of fantasy. If you're a richbeat, think back to what she said about magic. Think about the time she mentioned a song from back in za day that used the waltz-style "compoud meter" which, in short, divides every bar by 3 instead of 4. Whatever it is that she was referring to then, every single track released as Mori Calliope has forgone this tricky rhythmic style to instead divide everything by 4, the "simple meter" which is even more compulsory for rappers than it is for reapers...except for Ouroboros. While completely absent from Suisei's discography, and most other Holos as well, you do see (half of) A New Start and with Daydream, using the relatively-rare compound meter, and then make up a whole bunch of bullshit about how those songs relate to this one, but even I'm not enough of a schizo to take that very far.

She then reframes the "End of a Life" (literal death, Callification, loss of innocence, reincarnating as a VTuber, or whatever the fuck else) not as an indefinite confinement to death, but rather a freedom from the constraints of one's old life.

I know you faggots don't get music theory in the slightest, and lyric analysis is probably too much to ask too, but even /vt/ understands that the Ouroboros is, like its big-titted mistress, a symbol of timelooping. In the context of OUR big-titted mistress, however, it's specific to the cycle of death and rebirth - that these rises and falls are never really going away, that we're locked in the eternal struggle SUA so boldly declared in its conclusion.

It's because her role as a golden statue, a guiding light, is only as good as your own life proves it to be. So do your goddamn reps. Chase your dreams, but take care of yourself, and don't fall for the same trap that she did of believing that achieving that dream has anything to do with happiness - that comes from the chase, not the dream. Move on from shit that makes you seethe, or else let that seethe drive you to make something beautiful. I hate to say it, because I like Kiara, and she seemed to enjoy TTRPG. But honestly, her dropping out of TTRPG would solve the timezone issues that plagued the first season.
Scheduling collabs for Japan/Australia and Europe, or Japan/Australia and America, or America and Europe are all doable, but when all 3 time zone groups are involved, someone inevitably has to stream at like 5-6AM, and 9 times out of 10, Mori will volunteer for that to be her.

It was less of a timezone issue and more of an issue of everyone being too busy to schedule regular sessions. I think the bigger issue is that one of the girls lost interest in the campaign. If you've lost interest in something, you're more likely to prioritize other stuff ahead of it which possibly made the delays worse.
I just pray to god that this doesn't happen again. I'd rather have a small campaign with only 2-3 people than someone losing fucking interest again...
