What is /asp/?

A thread for aspiring vtubers! Whether your goal is to make the journey as an independent streamer or to gain experience and build a portfolio for agency auditions. Let's help each other grow and make it. Indies are welcome to selfpost, but shill responsibly. Share your knowledge, insights, feedback, discuss what has worked and what hasn't worked for you. And always remember to do your research before posting personally identifying information. That includes both in this thread and in your audition applications to agencies.

FAQ:
>Do I need a fully rigged model to be a vtuber?
Nope! You can get started as a simple .png character!

>I want to learn how to rig Live2D models, where do I go?
Brian Tsui (of Iron Vertex), Kira Omori and the official Live2D YouTube channels have many tutorials available.

>Where can I find artists/riggers?
vtuber.gg, ArtStation, DeviantArt, Twitter, Reddit, Skeb.jp, etc.

>I just want to get started, can I buy pre-made models?
Yes! Live2D models can be purchased off nizima.com (Live2D's official marketplace) or booth.pm (general Japanese indie artist website). Be sure to check compatibility with your facial tracking software!

>Where can I learn how to digital market myself?
https://learndigital.withgoogle.com/digitalgarage

>Where can I find some good games to stream?
https://twitchtracker.com/games
https://sullygnome.com/

>Twitch or YouTube?
The general rule of thumb is Twitch if your content is primarily based on livestreaming and YouTube if your content is primarily pre-recorded and edited.

>Do you think there's an audience for X, Y, Z content?
First, ask yourself if you would watch a streamer of your skill and experience. Second, do a check on social media and look to see if other streamers are already creating similar content. Don't limit yourself to vtubers, include traditional real life streamers to scope out a potential audience.

Stop pretending you’re a saint. You’re clearly using them as a means for something here too. If anything this is probably the reason why you got tossed away from her friend group. You should be grateful that you got raided by someone that huge at all.

Just move on and ignore them. You have your own journey to focus on and so do them. Living in the past won’t make you a better streamer.

the
>play games with high viewers low streamers ratio
thing is bullshit
1 - you're being a retard by playing random games based off what the last 7 days data shows on stream
2 - it's highly gamed by already large chuubas that drop in with a following, gain a ton of new viewers and then leave the category

focus on your content. answer the question
>why should anyone watch you?
first and work from there. it doesn't mean you need to answer that question before starting. you can find out as you stream but you still need to be able to answer that question.

Not viewers, followers. Those stats only matter if someone is actually streaming in that category. Xenoblade 2 for example has an active community but for some reason barely anyone streams that game so it’s easy pickings for views. I consistently get followers every time I stream that game. Whether they return or not is up to viewer not matter how entertaining you are, but as long as they follow you you will show up on their left tab.

i was basically on-call for them, ready to help out whenever they asked as both a carry and a teammate. we did so many raids together and i honestly never had any romantic feelings for them. i was just glad to be friends with them and to have something to do, i had a place to belong for a time. now i'm stuck drifting again and now I understand that it's my responsibility to become the 'queen bee', the head of my own group. that way, this kind of thing will never happen again.

i'm grateful that they raided, it didn't really result in anything long lasting or tangible. they also voiced that they don't like my redesign and liked my png better.

i know i have my own journey, but there's always that element of spite, and wanting to grow and succeed despite how many people desperately want me to burn, die, and fail.

this only matters if you're committed to joining that active community. it's like ASMR. there's a huge community but theyre are ONLY there for ASMR and will tank your views the instant you change away to anything else.

>to me it looks like we need to stick to a game before we can truly branch out into "variety"
you stick to a GENRE of games, not a game specifically. easiest genre, variety horror. play AAA horror games, indie horror games, popular horror games like Dead by Daylight and rotate through those.

Yes, dead follows are a thing for anything (which is a very unique audience with its own quirks that shouldn’t be used as an analogy here). There are people that are there that are only for that game but there are also people that are there for games similar to that or in rare cases get to know you enough to stick around. This is a silly reason to avoid playing a game. You can switch your games and viewership will tank but if you’re a variety streamer this is a given. What’s important is that you will get those follows and at least that regular that you bonded with and will stick around.

My model is about to be done pretty soon, but I really hate twitch and would rather not stream there if I can help it. The silver lining is that I have a youtube channel with 1k+ subs already just from stray subbers over the years from random edited videos I've put out. The channel can be monetized whenever I want to as it meets every criteria, so I was just going to put up a video explaining the rebranding of the channel and start streaming there. Perhaps just that will make some curious people come take a look and stay. Would this advantage I have on Youtube do me more favors in terms of visibility compared to streaming on twitch?

Another thing I had in mind would be to multistream and try to direct twitch viewers to my channel. Never getting affiliate, but just just as a tool to grow on YouTube. Or am I just coping here?

Don't delete your videos. Make a new channel fresh for extra challenge and experience unless you want to continue putting out content similar to your pre-existing videos. You are indeed coping a bit with your insecurity, I don't think you should have any expectations in general much less relying on 1k+ stray subs. Whatever use that 1k may be is very circumstantial, I wouldn't count on it or let it be a dealbreaker. It's nice to have though, not nearly as important your people skills and model though.

Simulcast is nice but you're gonna be nerfing yourself pretty hard if you need investment returns. I personally plant o simulcast twitch and youtube for maximum exposure and forego the policy shit so I can take advantage of copyrighted music and do my "be yourself" streaming thing. Donations in that case will be through external links (paypal, cashapp, gofundme, steam, crypto, virtual wallets etc).

Unrelatedly, a notable streamer who came by to visit told me how they had some shit going on with someone harassing them with 1$ paypal donation spam to attention seek/sexual project, and also had to move due to offline stalking.

What unique experience are any of these people providing? What do you think is more likely, that they all provide a unique type of entertaining content, or that people are just drawn in by their personality and ability to entertain? You're thinking about the question way too hard. Why should people watch you? Are you funny or witty? Do you have good stories that you can tell well? Can you sing?

My main thought process is the youtube algorithm favoring me just slightly if I enable monetization on my channel on top of putting pennies in my wallet, though this early on earnings doesn't matter as much as getting exposure. Youtube doesn't have an exclusivity clause like twitch, so I figured if I multistream this way it might work out (if I end up multistreaming at all). So I commissioned 2 Live2D artists because the one I initially got had a long waitlist (for a July-August slot) and I realized I should be getting reps in already so I got another one who committed to April. Now the first artist is telling me that someone cancelled so he went through his waitlist looking for someone who can afford to grab the cancelled slot. Bit because he's a good, well-known artist. Realized it was a terrible idea now. Didn't break the bank, I'm not that dumb, but I won't be able to use both, obviously. What the hell do I tell the one whose model I don't use? I posted here on a previous thread about if I should apply to Niji or Holo if I wanted a male model but had a female voice, it does seem pretty unrealistic and you guys are right. I think I'll be pursuing indie activities for a while longer since it is highly unlikely I will be selected for anything in that circumstance.

For now, I'm thinking about redesigning, and have attached a draft of my character idea below, and would love criticism. I would like it keep the character masculine leaning / androgynous, but I fear it may come off a bit too shota-esque. For context, I was a domme demon in a military uniform before because it's what my voice best suited- which doesn't really work out well for 'androgyny'.

Thanks for any feedback!

As soon as you possibly can. If you can create produced content before you debut, so much the better. If the quality is good, it generates hype, and the hardest thing to do in this business is generate hype.
>>20261623
It honestly depends on the agency. Some agencies watch every video and read every application they get sent, and others only open applications to give the appearance that they have open slots. Why would they do this? To generate hype, of course. You just apply and hope.
>>20261763
Like above, it depends on the agency. It even varies between the agencies that actually have open slots. Some are casting for characters they already have models and backstories for, and others are just looking to get the best possible talents they can. The best advice I can give is to showcase EVERYTHING you're capable of in the time you have because there's really no way to know what they're ultimately looking for. Best foot forward and all that.

Pick whatever your best trait is as a streamer and lead with it. If it's singing, then open with a short (15-20 second) demonstration of your voice and range. If it's art, then open with a speedpaint timelapse while you introduce yourself over it. If it's voice acting, then work your vocal range in early in the introduction. It's not too late to submit, but it wouldn't surprise me if one of them already has a good idea of who's getting in already. But worst-case scenario, they know your name and that you're interested. Agencies do still keep their eyes on applicants they're interested in, even if they don't get taken in right away. If they check back in with your content months later and they like the progression you've made, you might even be scouted for a future generation. It wouldn't be the first time it's happened like that.
>>20263046
Will their influence on the industry wane? Probably not. Once you get that big, it's almost impossible to shrink without a really serious scandal. Public trust is surprisingly hard to lose once you have it.
Will they always be the only two agencies that have that influence? I really doubt it. There are a lot of ways to find success in the industry. VShojo has an entirely different business model and they're doing just as good in the NA market than Holo and Niji. Even the smaller startups like Tsunderia and Phase Connect are getting bigger despite there being more competition than ever. It wouldn't surprise me if one of them cashes in on tribalism fatigue from the Niji/Holo "war" and starts to get taken very seriously as a third option. The ultimate goal is one cohesive generation per audition period, but let's just say that if the talent pool is rich enough, it's not unheard of for more than one generation to be filled from one audition period.
As for other countries getting VTuber branches, it doesn't make much business sense, at least the way the market is now. It's still pandering almost exclusively to weebs, and if India, the 2nd most populous country in the world, didn't have enough weebs to sustain Niji's branch, why would Germany or Russia be any different? Spanish has a slightly better chance because of the number of countries that use Spanish as their primary language, but even still, most Spanish-speaking countries are shit poor, just like India. Maybe if VTubing becomes more generalized and starts to appeal to non-weebs, the industry will get normalized in worldwide culture, but as it is now, the financial foundation isn't there.
Proven track records are irreplaceable, but there will always be undiscovered talent out there. Tsunderia in particular seems to like picking them out. Amiya Aranha had no streaming experience before joining with them and she's the full package, easily the favorite of her generation. Tetsuya Kazune got 5 million plays on his old Spotify account, but no one knows where he came from in the VTubing world. The point is, you don't know what's out there if you don't look everywhere. The good agencies know that.

There's three (technically four, but the last two combine) ways you could have been doxxed like this

1 - Fans of you in your chuuba life wanted to know the operator, so went digging and found it. If this is the case, you need to increase your opsec, because there shouldn't really be anything tying you back. I would have thought you, of all people, would be aware of this.

2 - People in your IRL life wanted to ruin your online life. Again, relatively simple opsec - don't tell anyone what you're doing, don't make anything obvious.
I suppose a problem might arise here in that you might need to (depending on jurisdiction) report activities to the courts, which might be public record. In such a case, you're fucked, because no matter what you do, people will want to ruin your day.

3 - It wasn't a deliberate action, either someone IRL stumbled over your stream and recognized your voice, or the other way around. Best bet is to put on a filter. It'll sound shit, but hopefully avoid this happening again.

Depending how big you are, it might just be easier to reincarnate with a voice filter anyway.

Just wanna vent. Someone I know is auditioning for Niji and they're on full copium that if someone boring like Uki can make it in, then an enthusiastic/passionate person like them has a good chance. Kept telling them to keep expectations low, but let's just say I didn't phrase it well enough and things went a bit sour. They're genuinely entertaining to watch though and is not a 2view but I've seen enough heartbroken aspies with no views on their audition tapes and was just trying to be realistic.
Anyways, thanks for reading. Good luck in your endeavors, aspies. Success is different for everyone and I hope you can find yours.

The point of that stream is to show you how low the barrier of entry is to becoming a vtuber. All this time spent perfecting design, commissioning overlays, hyping a debut on Twitter, etc. when you should be streaming with the crappiest in character png you can find and building your ability to entertain and audience.

Kongou is literally proof that getting good as a streamer can carry you as much as spending time making vids and shorts. He’s built on hard work, perfecting a skill (zatsus), playing a character, building a community (amazing that he didn’t use discord) and is amazing at networking. In fact it’s much more preferable to grow this way so you don’t get littered with dead follows.

Kongou's so autistic he doesnt even use twitter beyond putting out a streaming time tweet and he has built a community without a discord server too. They just show up when he streams. Kongou started out with a nice quality live2d, themed overlay and channel art, and fucking lore.
Yes, it takes no effort to picrew a png and click „go live“ but if nobody is watching you it’s not worth dick. I can learn three guitar chords and go busking too, and I’ll come back with a big lid of nothing.
When people do the debut, it’s because they want to succeed, not because autism prevents them from going online.

Kongou definitely has viewers that came from outside of /here/
His zero growth in ccv could more likely be attributed to a lot of the events he chooses to hold despite knowing it wouldn't help him grow. He literally spent almost every stream last month playing fucking, Library of Ruina and the month before was a Collab month with some people that have high CCV and a lot of people with not high CCV. If he really wanted to go for partner he could probably do so; I think him making the statement that he won't do collabs on his channel is probably an indicator that he wants to go us on that growth now
he's always been one to help the smaller streamers out though; the fact that he only ever raids down (and only to people below 20ccv) and is so willing to collab with anyone shows that I feel

Well there’s your problem. You can’t enjoy your own content. If you want to be a good streamer you need to be an active viewer to soak it in what you like and remove what you don’t like. Your target audience should be yourself since you’ll be streaming as yourself and want to attract people who enjoy the same things you do.

Just take it slow. You’ll find people to watch and have the opportunity to make friends with as you go along. It can be streamers who follow you by chance, or you stumble upon browsing a game category, or other ways like /wvt/ (I browse the thread a lot and will interact with you if I like you if you ever shill yourself there). Browsing categories everyday and making an effort to interact with every tweet will burn you out. Just be natural and check twitter whenever you feel like it (like the toilet or when you’re bored). If you like a streamer interacting with their tweets won’t feel like work (this is the ideal relationship you want to find)

I wished i had your ability to see only the negative in everything, i claim to be a pretty negative person but even i'm not as bad as you. Look, my goals may not be as noble as "i want the world to be a happy place and bring smiles and love to the people of the world", like apparently everyone else, but that doesn't mean i'm overly selfish either. I obviously want people to enjoy coming to my stream and find something redeemable in it, but i'd be lying if i said i don't also do it for attention.

Saying i dislike the hobby is a stretch, i think it's genuinely interesting. I'm working on a backstory, with an integrated interactive video game especially made for the stream (by myself), i have an extensive 3D model in the works with a transformation to a different 2D one (human to dragon transformation) that can be triggered by viewers with interactions and i have been streaming since all the way back when livestream.com around and i streamed with a bitrate of 500kbs. It's just that i don't like the "viewing" aspect of it. I can appreciate other streams and i do hang out in streams of chuubas i have gotten to know, but it's just not something i actively enjoy. My attention span is rather short for that.

>>20280302
I'll have to figure out how to go from "talking" to "entertaining" then i suppose. I feel like most small streamers do kind of just play-by-play commentary for the game and bounce off of chat, but maybe i'm not seeing it. Part of it may be that doing variety instead of establishing a small core of fans of a franchise or something kills any traction i get instantly. If i stuck playing just Digimon games like i did a month ago i'd probably be still at 10CCV instead of 0. It's just that eventually i'll run out of games to play from that franchise. And i'm not entertaining enough to transfer those over to other games.

>> No.20281137

Your goals are wrong. The reason why nobody is carrying from your Digimon streams is that you’re not bonding with any of your viewers. They are people too. Do you make sure to greet them every time they come in? Do you know anything about them? The games you play only matter for making sure you don’t burn out while streaming. If you just wanted to play games you can just do that off stream and enjoy on your own time. The stream is for others not yourself.

But what do you mean by bizarre, my reasoning of why i like the streaming / chuubaing or the contradiction that i enjoy doing it but not watching it? for the latter it's probably in the vein of "id probably love participating in motorsports because it seems like fun driving fast cars, but i'd not sit here and watch someone else do it"

>But what do you mean by bizarre, my reasoning of why i like the streaming / chuubaing or the contradiction that i enjoy doing it but not watching it?
That and the viewer-initiated transforming model thing. I'm not sure that I would be drawn to a stream or really be entertained or engaged by that, but I don't know your audience
>"id probably love participating in motorsports because it seems like fun driving fast cars, but i'd not sit here and watch someone else do it"
That kinda makes sense, but you really should be watching your own VODs all the same

I'm not gonna shit up the thread with my terrible ideas, it's mostly meant to be gimmicks anyways so nothing that's supposed to carry the stream, more like in the vein of "make the streamer do this for 500 channel points", but in this case they could decide which model is being used and i might change my personality / voice a bit depending on which one is used. There's more to it, but that's all in the future.

I'll be doing more reviewing regardless, thanks.

Sorry I missed this. Nursing a hangover...
Always be very, very careful with your personal information. You do not need to give your full name, address, etc. to ANY agency unless you're signing a contract with them. Other things like time zone, age, and previous channels is actually important though, but nothing that would be personally identifying. If you have concerns or questions, ask them during the interview. Legit agencies won't mind, and should welcome the opportunity to put the concerns to rest. The first generation of PRISM Project have said that the ad they replied to to get the interview was extremely vague and sketchy, but the agency itself turned out to be above board. Just be thorough and trust your instincts. As to whether it's worth it, ask yourself if the revenue you project you'd be making (after the agency cut) would be more than you're making now, or whether the loss would make up for whatever services you'd be receiving from them. That'll give you your answer.

I'd ask myself what I really want out of vtubing, first. From what you told us there's almost certainly a better way to acquire what you want out of it.

Not that you can't become a sucessful vtuber regardless, there are others that did so. But what you're describing to us is the equivalent of the vapid girl that enters a nerd hobby for attention and can barely answer anything about it. Which is where the meme about gatekeepig women with questions about the hobby came from, actually.

i know this feel but i remind myself that Uki has the Elira nepotism buff. Uki's apex stream was the most normie 2view tier apex stream. literal any streamer above 50 views on twitch would have been better than Uki. i hate it but it just goes to show the power of nepotism over lack of any talent.

Got a reply for you.

lol there's a guy who's trying to get into vtubing and started dabbling with Coinbase back in January apparently
any advice for him in a nutshell?
I doubt anything as common as Coinbase/bitcoin etc is cutting-edge

:
back
coinbase is great for holding coins but youre not going to get rich unless something blows up but by the time its on coinbase it already has most likely. its great though for buying coins while theyre cheap and legit holding them for 3-5 years and make a good return
its just not instant gratification , its a smart longterm way to build a portfolio though
you can also stake your coins on coinbase and get a percentage back (APY) a year for lending out your crypto. UST (Terra Luna's stablecoin can earn you back around 20-30% a year with anchor portocol) thats the best if you can lend out a good amount a year. say you had 100k to put in an account, you'd get paid 20-30k a year for just holding the funds and you still own it all
if you want to day trade though i'd recommend Mango Markets on Solona ecosystem for 1-10x leverage trades
but hold longterm in like coinbase, cold storage, binance, ect for rewards . id take my profits from trading and stake it in coinbase ect like u said above and hold my funds/ profits in a stablecoin that way
stake it in coinbase ect like *I said above

Thinking of becoming a androgynous chuuber, I streamed a long time ago speedrunning games and had a small audience (70 average viewers) but I didn't have time to stream anymore so I stopped.

How do you guys think of your designs? Do you just look at other things you like and mix them together into one Vtuber? I have money for commissions but I just need to decide what to make.

I also know how to network on Twitter and edit videos so I think I have a good chance if I farm clips on YT/tiktok, thanks for anyone who can help me get ideas going for a design.

for one im about to commission, im literally just mashing together a bunch of features (somewhat related) from a bunch of different characters into one. i wanted an oni-human samurai kinda look, so i just took a bunch of references for different features for an artist to draw

>> No.20293118

I made a "mood board" of characters/traits I enjoyed and handed them off to a character designer with a short description of what i wanted and things I wanted to avoid (facial hair, short hair, fur, etc) and just went from there They sent me a sketch, I provided a few small changes after sitting on it for half a day or so, and then they finished it up.

I did this twice and actually liked the first thing both artists sent me and just went with the one I liked the most.

Does anyone know any riggers competent with more "painterly" style models with less anime styling, e.g. similar or slightly more complex textures than Cimrai's, and with a nose more pronounced than a single dot? I found the rigger for pic related but their comms are closed seemingly indefinitely, and $2200 USD is a bit tight for me, even though I know this kind of request is certainly going to be pricier than your usual live2d model.

I think of my designs as to what would attract males more without being flat out bait androgynous is defnitely the way to go or fujo bait, and what theme I can go for that wouldn't be too chuuni. After that I just go through styles and see if I want to steal any.
Currently redesigning an old design I had that I couldn't figure out a theme for when I was working on it.
