Just analyzed the live chat: 3284 unique members commented in the ~2 hour members-only stream. Ofc some could have commented and left, so this isn't a CCV floor, but I'd expect viewer retention to be higher in members-only streams. And just as obv, not all viewers commented, but again, so this isn't a CCV ceiling either, but I'd expect viewer participation % to be higher.

Comparing this to her most recent non-members stream (Elden Ring part 2), which had at least 2452 unique members and 6874 unique grays commenting with a peak CCV of ~16100 across ~3 hours.

If I limit it to just the first 2 hours of that ER stream (to match the members karaoke stream length), I get 2114 members and 5518 grays.

On one hand, Gura karaoke streams are ultra popular, and members-only streams are no exception given above numbers and assuming about same % participation among visiting members. On the other hand, ER streams are full of tourists that pop in and out (especially given Gura's "skill" at the game), and % participation on grays is bound to far lower than that for members.

-vtubers are far more mainstream in japan. like, orders of magnitude more mainstream. the fact that Gura is one of the EN sphere's top streamers is a fucking fluke, an anomaly
-contrary to popular belief that streaming in English gets you a bigger audience, this is wrong. streamers that stream in some local language (be it Russian, Spanish, Japanese) get a massive buff and basically suck up their country's audience

At this point, Hololive would be lucky if they could somehow replicate JP's growth over a few years. I fear that instead, they'll just cannibalize each other more and more.

There's just not as many total viewers for EN than JP and it's been that way for months.
We can talk about cull, likes ratio, VOD views...etc, but if we take CCV at face value, the total CCV between EN and JP are just 2 different worlds.

I think more promotion and hype for upcoming streams on other social media platforms would help, like twitter or even posting their schedules on the youtube community page.
Not having a schedule at all hurts and they could schedule more exciting collabs more often. Just compare the number of big collabs HoloEN has had in the past 2 months with NijiEN's number of big collabs. Imagine the numbers HoloEN would get if they had a 6 member Deceit collab today instead of NijiEN's putrid numbers.

I would argue that this year HoloStars finally has a direction that's bearing fruit. They are lucky that the company's CEO is very invested in HoloStars and they have one of the best manager in Cover. Now that they're finally giving the guys 3D models and they are holding small concerts, the HoloStars aren't as dependent on streaming as their primary source of income anymore. Although to be honest it's worrying that it's been nearly 3 years and they haven't really expanded their audience. Maybe Yagoo is banking on the new HoloStars gen to generate more interest.

EN needs some kind of outreach to people who aren't already in the EN sphere. HoloEN launched to the fanbase Hololive already had a the time, and then Gura went viral as fuck, with enough momentum to speedrun hardcarry the entire branch for roughly a whole year. However, after that's tapered off (she's still doing fuck you numbers, but they're not as absurd as before) it's like they ran out of ideas to keep the momentum going. The most they do is...individual HoloENs tweet things...inconsistently? NijiEN's basically HoloEN without the Gura hardcarry, and NijiEN girls were kinda a neutered precursor to Council + Hope, where they were mostly tapping into the dormant existing fanbase, while doing little to expand borders. Luxiem managed to mini-Gura with the rich fujos (numbers say Luxiem are top Nijis) but it's plain as day that Noctyx didn't duplicate it. And I don't see a plan by NijiEN males beyond "milk the fujos before they get bored and leave," what with the event spamming.

So basically, corpo EN needs to pay someone money to slap their faces on someone else's IP in not-Asia, marketed at an audience that isn't already deep weeb (and thus already aware of ENtubers). IE, Gawr Boost Drinks aren't good enough. Maybe it's hard to sell anime girls to puritans, but there are other ways that should be reasonable, like digging up perms for Gura to cover a classic English song from the 60s-80s or something.

IMO the main problem is there's just not as much support for holo EN as there is in JP. Partially due to how spread apart they are, and partially due to the bureaucracy of having to round trip everything the JP HQ and associates.

There are plenty of examples of how EN management is ... inefficient to say the least. From things as serious as borked music productions (including IRyS) to little things like the Holo Bass incident, they just often don't move in a timely and responsive matter. That's not to say the JP side doesn't have issues either, but whatever they have seems to be amplified on the EN side.

Yes, some of the blame could be laid on the talents themselves, but the relative lack of local support for them doesn't help.

Subaru getting millions of views on her Sushi clips is good for her even if none of the EOPs watch her daily streams because at least they know who Subaru is and they'll sub/watch special events. Ayame and Watame have gotten so many subs from EOPs watching clips of them making cute noises.
