Are vtubers helping popularize PC gaming in Japan?

unironically they are. Its going slow tho.
Did you know console software over there is called "コンシューマーソフト" (consoomer software)? "I'm not a professional or something, I just need my smartphone and have my games right here in my after-work box".

But they're waking up. PS3 and PS4 Stores close down soon, PSP and PSVita as well so you're forced to buy the new shiny thing just to be able to access the store. You need to buy yearly passes just for online play. And VTubers show it off, you can just do it on PC, costing you only the game itself. They see how much trouble NePoLaBo had with Stardew on PS4. They see how nobody ever seriously caught a Virus either despite being somewhat popular (nobody remembers Shion shitting up her PC lol). Project Winter and Among Us brought quite some people to PC. I personally know of two japanese people now waiting the extra year for MH Rise for PC to play with me and other friends from overseas who don't own a switch.

It'll take a while, but it seeps in.

You do know that Japan had tons of PC only games even before vtubers, right?

PC gaming has been gaining popularity for a while now, slowbro.
Nip chuubas who are PC gaming is rather proof on how popular the platform is in Japan

So why are Japanese devs still so bad at making or porting games to PC?

That's far from a Japan exclusive problem.

I remember Hal was talking about the PC gaming scene with how most Japs would shop for a PC. At first it was "I need a PC that can run PUBG" that evolved into "I need a PC that can run Apex".

They are helping, but so are other streamers/youtubers. Its not vtubers who started to popularise it.

They had rpgmaker games, VN's and porn, don't try and act like it was anything more than that. AAA Japanese devs didn't even port games to PC until that Dark Souls petition and even then it was to target a Western consumer base they didn't know existed rather than a domestic consumer base

From what I've seen of JP advertising, this is pretty much how it goes. This prebuilt PC can play FF14/PSO2/PUBG/Apex at high settings, good deal! With all the PCs on the showroom floor running benchmarks for them to show off to the customers.

Does Apex have much high system requirements than PUBG?

Apparently AMD doesn't care about Japan other than their console GPUs I guess.

Japanese gained 0.34% market share in February alone, making it the 10th most popular language on Steam. Another month like February and it'll be the 8th most popular language.
Japanese has been inclining quite steadily although it's only started to take off recently. By the end of 2021 I wouldn't be surprised if it's around German/PT-BR levels.

They probably just get whatever was the latest one at the time they're building. Looking at OP's picture, those who have 8000 series CPU and below always paired with pre-RTX cards (excluding Choco) and vice versa. Probably don't even consider Ray Tracing at all.

How big are Vtubers and hololive in general? Has there been any publicly available market research for estimating the number of vtuber watchers worldwide, or the revenue of the vtuber industry?

She's also constantly rendering video. A good example of how to fuck things up was for instance Calli's debut, the smoke effect killed her FPS and turned it into a slideshow. She was trying to stream with a shitty laptop and got betrayed by her equipment. If she had a decent card it would've paved over the unoptimized effect and saved her frame rate. For full-time streamers this is their day job, it makes perfect sense to invest in expensive hardware, those rare occasions where it saves your ass without you even knowing it make the cards worth their weight in gold.

the only thing that will make pc popular in japan is snoy completely shitting itself which it's not trying to do at full steam
