Anon, SEA(not)nig here. Let me tell you that SEA / TW (or Asian in general) are a lot more tolerant towards idol culture than the West. What you are talking about is likely the old 90s idol culture that focused heavily on "purity" (instead of modern idol culture with a lot more varieties) - but that's the kind of standards Asian, especially the "older" generation (those in their 30s or older), grew up with. "No dating until university", "No sex before marriage", "Don't hang out too late with the opposite sex" and similar thing were the norm. Maybe the zoomers are more Westernized nowadays, but in general, Asian are quite used to putting emphasis on the concept of "purity".
