Beware the coming frost. The ice elves, hidden in their caves high atop the mountain, grow closer day by day. The first coming flakes of snow were in April were just...odd, considering the temperature days before and clear skies. Here's my back-of-the-napkin attempt at an answer: When /become/ was a regular thread, we would average 45-50 posters and (as a guess) maybe 10 of those were one-post visitors just asking "What is this thread?"

There's always been a degree of a soft spot with me and those old ThinkPads.

There's always been stories of soldiers vanishing in warzones. Sometimes their vanishing is tied to becoming captured or going AWOL/Deserting but sometimes an entire squad goes missing. Enemy action? Local Partisans getting them? Unsupervised Lieutenant Newbie with a map? There's always something to explain it.
Except for when they find the gear seemingly abandoned after a firefight. Captured soldiers would have their gear seized. Partisans steal weapons to use later. Lost soldiers keep their equipment.
But when this happens there's no answer. Some might put it up to it being a spook story to scare someone or clerical error having people who were in area X actually being in area Y.
Hell some people would even go as far as to say Aliens abducted them. Even with GPS and all this other fancy gear people get lost. People vanish. But what if it wasn't getting lost but actually drawn astray. Lured away by a fate heard of only in fairy tales.

While Lamy may be the one we're the one we first associate with BECOMING she may be the latest in the long line of snow elves abducting and turning humans. After all her mother was human...
