I have always been more comfortable with the idea that "vtubers" are just content creators with very lively avatars (hiding their irl appearances because whatever reasons). So, to me, the Nijisanji/Hololive "liver" seems like the natural evolution of the content I enjoyed and expected from Kizuna Ai. Since the Gamebu fiasco it has been obvious that this is the same meaning that most vtuber fans accept.
But it appears that a lot of the people in the early vtuber industry didn't want the seiyuu/soul to outshine neither the character nor the brand/team.
