Its always interesting to me that asians have this problem exclusively where their words are broken up into a certain amount of characters per “letter” or word in their case so when she says hard so breaks it into ha and do. She cant even say ha and ard because shes not used to keeping 2 english consonants as the end of a word and her mind automatically inserts a vowel sound at the end of the d which forces her to say do instead of ard. It's just because they are taught everything in kana, even foreign words, so they automatically refer to the syllables they are familiar with. It happens the same the other way round. Native english speaking people usually butcher japanese pronounciation because they try to apply the english vowel shifted letters to japanese, like saying "ay" for the letter A and "ee" for E, even though most european languages say "ah" and "eh". And english has the added complexity of the way words are written having to do fuckall with how they're spoken.

If you tried to speak for example, a slavic language you'd butcher it just as hard because you won't even physically know how to pronounce some letters because the sound doesn't even exist in english.

Its funny you mention slavic languages because i have a lot of serbians in my family. Its not really the pronunciations that make it difficult for english to translate to other european languages, i can mimic the language and speak the words as they are written fine but theres so many mechanics and grammatical tools that just dont exist in english that make it difficult to translate. In essence, its easy to read and say the words but to create a sentence that makes sense it takes a lot of awareness of these mechanics so you cant just translate english words and their meanings to serbian words. Other languages almost seem complex for the sake of specificity but english is a very broad language where words and sounds can be made in multiple different ways and then you retroactively add tenses and genders etc. With serbian the biggest problem is that the sentence has to be constructed almost all at once, you have to have the noun modified at the same time that the adjective would be added whereas in english regardless of if the noun is a subject or is indirectly related to the object of the sentence or if the noun is implied, you dont have to modify the noun itself. The rest of the sentence is built around the nouns and verbs so they are whats usually modified. In serbian the noun can have a mechanic that functions like an adjective but they happen within the same word. For example the noun for home changes depending on its gender but instead of adding gendered terms you just use a different noun. Its hard to describe this phenomenon unless i could write and translate 2 sentences as an example but theres no point in doing that. Less phonetic languages and im assuming languages with more mechanics than english would probably be extremely hard to use as a base for learning english because it seemed harder for the serbs to learn basic english than it did for me to be able to read serbian. I can only assume for japanese people that the mechanics of the language are so far removed that learning english would feel impossible

As someone with German as my first language, learning english was extremely easy because doesn't have declensions and word genders. You just string the words together in the correct order and add an "s" here and there and it just werks. It's basically like German but with 30% of the grammatical complexity.
