Well, it was a good experience at the end of the day. Astel and Aruran still interact with international viewers with the English they learnt. They don't leave the market, they just don't focus on it.
The faster they switch focus to domestic the better. They can have a degree of control over the market. International viewers are much more risky.

This is merely hypothesis from me, but there's something I call an "indie valley". It's more or less how a niche market grows mainstream because of a big buzz (or buzzes) which brings new people to counter its niche status. This is because numbers big > casuals loves numbers > numbers bigger. Casual viewers latch on starting a positive feedback loop (see Kimetsu no Yaiba for example).
This phenomenon only works if the "mainstream market" here is basically an extension of the niche, which means JPs (or weebs?) for Hololive. I believe for Hololive a better example would be when Coco did her thing. That was quite a big deal and new people started pouring in because of the buzz she made. HoloEN also created a buzz back when they debuted (fastest subs, Mori songs), but casuals (JP) who checked Holo back then would probably never identify themselves as EN fans anyway.

Subs boost is meaningless if people don't watch streams. See how Haato and Matsuri, who had a fuckton of EOP attention early on, have less ccv than a lot of mid tier holos. You could say the Stars had a sub boost because of both Coco and EN, like >>19879785 said, but their overall ccv growth from it was minuscule. The ones that really got bigger in viwership were Roberu, who spent the entirety of 2021 networking with other JP chuubas, and Astel, who did the same but withing the Apex scene (with a decent EOP help, but that started to dwindle as of recently). Miyabi also saw some growth in that area, and I genuinely don't know how since he barely collabs outside of the Stars, but I'm still happy for him. The other are mostly on the same numbers they had since late 2020/early 2021. At the end of the day the only way a StarsEN can actually help their JP senpai is by actively interacting with them, and even then they'll probably not help a lot considering how little the western audience genuinely care about the current Stars. And it's definitely not because of the language barrier because there is a lot of EOPs who watch the JP girls without understand an iota of Japanese other than shit they "learned" from anime.

It's not worth discussing in detail now because of uncertainties concerning what's going to happen in the next months. They're, by the soonest, going to be released at the end of the year.
The big move right now is for gen 4 to go ham from the get go with making buzzes. Many ways they can go with, like the Coco way by hiring a bilingual who still mainly streams in JP, the Roberu way by networking hard, or a musician to finally complete the Starsband or make Holouters a regular program in 3D pls Shinove-san.
