What is /asp/?

A thread for aspiring vtubers! Whether your goal is to make the journey as an independent streamer or to gain experience and build a portfolio for agency auditions. Let's help each other grow and make it. Indies are welcome to selfpost, but shill responsibly. Share your knowledge, insights, feedback, discuss what has worked and what hasn't worked for you. And always remember to do your research before posting personally identifying information. That includes both in this thread and in your audition applications to agencies.

FAQ:
>Do I need a fully rigged model to be a vtuber?
Nope! You can get started as a simple .png character!

>I want to learn how to rig Live2D models, where do I go?
Brian Tsui (of Iron Vertex), Kira Omori and the official Live2D YouTube channels have many tutorials available.

>Where can I find artists/riggers?
vtuber.gg, ArtStation, DeviantArt, Twitter, Reddit, Skeb.jp, etc.

>I just want to get started, can I buy pre-made models?
Yes! Live2D models can be purchased off nizima.com (Live2D's official marketplace) or booth.pm (general Japanese indie artist website). Be sure to check compatibility with your facial tracking software!

>Where can I learn how to digital market myself?
https://learndigital.withgoogle.com/digitalgarage

>Where can I find some good games to stream?
https://twitchtracker.com/games
https://sullygnome.com/

>Twitch or YouTube?
The general rule of thumb is Twitch if your content is primarily based on livestreaming and YouTube if your content is primarily pre-recorded and edited.

>Do you think there's an audience for X, Y, Z content?
First, ask yourself if you would watch a streamer of your skill and experience. Second, do a check on social media and look to see if other streamers are already creating similar content. Don't limit yourself to vtubers, include traditional real life streamers to scope out a potential audience.

>>19188769
Yeah, I think Kiara originally commissioned that artist for her logo and overlay and everyone on the planet ended up commissioning the same artist afterwards.

Overall I'd say it's just a part of the vtuber aesthetic since many graphic designers for vtubers make similar work, but it's hard not to say that guy was a part of making it so consistently prevalent. At the same time, there's only so many directions and styles to go with if you're always trying to communicate "this is a cute vtuber with a ___ theme" with your logo. It'd be like complaining sports logos are all somewhat samey because they all follow similar design principles.

The best part is that this person spent a few months doing pre-debut networking and shilling before ever going live and their debut hit about a hundred and they just rode through from there. These are incredibly good things to do if (You) have several things:

2) experience in entertainment
3) a large sum of money for the expensive model
4) preexisting audience
5) experience in entertainment

>So how do you know you wont be part of the statistic? Even though odds are against you?
It's honestly not exceptionally hard to cultivate an audience but I think a lot of terminally-on-4chan and overall just jaded type of people you see here are too proud to do the things that need to be done. I think a lot are just too judgemental and uninterested in doing things they see as bad, cirnge, etc.

I've seen people shit on things like hashtags, networking (seen as leeching somehow?), making memes (too "normie"), researching larger creators (too "normie" again), taking advice from successful people they don't like. They see other people who are actually sociable or likeable succeed and think "I have to sell my soul! I have to destroy my morals!" when all the other people who became successful before them did was create actual content (guides, memes, tiktoks, what have you) that appeals to a large amount of people. I understand because I had that same mindset about other things when I was younger.

If you look around and see what other people are doing to succeed, which hasn't changed in a decade, you should have no problem cultivating some form of an audience unless you've got such a boring personality, voice, etc that no one could possibly be interested in you. There's some people who just aren't cut out for content creation because it requires a lot more than hitting the Live button and playing some obscure game no one cares about then just repeating that for months and wondering why you aren't bigger.

i have realized my personality is diametrically opposed to what an entertainer should be like and since i'm not enjoying acting i think it's the best to stop streaming altogether. i enjoyed the ride but i scheduled my last stream for now. it was a fun time being an /asp/ie but what i thought was just something i had to learn ended up clashing with my nature. all i wanted was to have people to talk to, but this was the wrong way to get it.

Dude this. I hated my "fight through the cringe" phase. It's just this weird self conscious brainrot when in reality my friends did not care in the least, or at worst will roast me once in a while for it but we all do that to eachother. I really wish I could've just started over but undoing all that networking would've only made things worse. I think it's just the pressure of "doing something embarrassing" which can happen all the time vs "creating something embarrassing" because then they're judging something you put hard work into.

For anyone experiencing this or worried about it, just fight through it. It's really not that bad on the other side and a lot more freeing.

>>19194086
It's fun. I'm having fun creating content and engaging with my community, and it makes it easier to meet likeminded people. It's the same as any other hobby I've had. I've met people through card games while also enjoying them, through gaming, through conventions. It's all for my own enjoyment first and foremost though admittedly this is more of a success-based hobby so that enjoyment comes from success as well as creation, but all the other social benefits are obviously a huge perk.

Stop using 4chan as a fucking metric. There were TENS OF THOUSANDS of people there enjoying it and less than 100 people that didn't like it. Your goal isn't to be "more entertaining" you can be the most entertaining person in the world and not exist in the eyes of most people because you're undiscoverable. Your inner chan schizo is the reason you're even considering the opinions of some retards in the nijimale thread to begin with.

Stream. Do what you want. You aren't and will likely never be a corpo or on corpo level. just to use Mysta as an example, he had less than 70 viewers as an indie when he stopped. It starts the 15th of every September.
There are a couple people who organize things but its very community driven, so no one has any "power" over anyone, there's just specific people who upload the content, protect the sheet in case people start shitposting in it, and do streams.
Any anon is free to join, they can do album art, song art, sing, edit songs for other people, write lyrics, etc. There arent really any rules besides you cant reuse a song that has been done already and that lyrics have to be posted specifically for the musical, so any song that was written on a random /v/ thread during the year is disqualified.
The usual order of things goes:
-Writefag writes a song
-Posts in the spreadsheet the pastebin of the lyrics the song, alongside the original song and an instrumental
-Singfag shows up and sings it (it doesnt always happen, many songs end up unsung)
-Either singfag edits his own songs or they send it to an editfag to edit it for them (add effects like reverb, compression, autotune if needed)
-Post the final result in the spreadsheet
-Artfag sees a song without any art
-Draws an art for it
-Adds it to the spreadsheet
-Videofag sees song in the spreadsheet
-Makes a music video for it

Not all songs get music videos or art tho

We have so many top content creators now who were mainly early movers that grew with the platform they were on. The networking came after the fact. Unfortunately, we’re already “late” so networking is already an absolute must for 99.99%.

yes because when an industry is just starting it's called Early Mover's/Adopter's Advantage. they're able to break through the usual grind by taking advantage of the novel buff. those people eventually become the ones who wield nepotism powers once an industry is established.

>>19225572
>now, there's a billion cover singers on the platform and few have an actual chance of Making It.
yes. this is why pointing to people who have already made it and using them as an example to follow isn't a winning strategy. asp loves to repeat ludwig's video and while it does have good fundamental and basic information, it does nothing to actually help your growth. because now that's just it it's the bare minimum fundamentals you need to even begin as a streamer. shit moves fast and it's too easy to get complacent and end up left behind.

>>19225578
>Not all the early adopters are pulling large amounts of viewers though.
this is just nitpicking. you have retards like Mocca who got a huge boost as an early adopter and then proceeded to fuck it up. anyone who fucks it up like mocca would fail just as hard. and you have chuubas like Artemis who shilled perfectly and now coasts with 500 CCV even now playing literal minesweeper at a third grade level.

in the end it only matters how good you are at continuing your growth as a chuuba. it just happened that most people active early on all got a big novelty boost that will never happen again in 2022. some of them fumbled that boost others didn't.

The Wave 3 is a Condenser mic, which I've been reading, picks up a lot of background noise and I think this true for me since you can definitely hear the echo in my room. Is a Dynamic mic really much better in my case and if so, which dynamic mic would fit my price budget while also being a step up from the Wave 3?

Thanks anon. I've been looking at that one for a bit now since it keeps coming up. Is there anything special I should be keeping in mind for it? I've got a pop filter already, planning to just reuse that and I don't really need a windsock since I'm indoors. But is there anything you'd recommend I get along with it?

I've got a decent mic arm for my Wave 3 already and I figure any new mic I get will come with its own attachment clips and shit that use the standard thread sizes.

One last dumb question. If I want to try ASMR is it possible to use my Wave 3 and the SM58 as "left" and "right" channels? Just don't want to put the Wave 3 away into storage since it's a pretty good mic so I figure I could still get some use out of it?

>> No.19231619

>>19231351
A condenser mic is better at picking up small sounds, so the Wave 3 would be more suited to ASMR-type content even if it isn't binaural.
The SM58 (and dynamics in general) are frequently used on stage for live performances because they do a better job capturing loud sounds, the opposite of what you want for ASMR type recordings, not to mention the hassle of getting both to record their own tracks simultaneously.

Basically, use the SM58 for screaming and the Wave 3 for whispering.

Anon just literally lower your gain and speak clearly at a fist's length from your mic. If you have enough finance, instead of buying another mic you're better off having some soundproofing and acoustic treatment for your room, especially if you're used to the sound of condensers since a dynamic might sound pretty dead for you

Disagree on Genshin Impact. I’ve had pretty consistent growth playing Genshin from zero and some fans of that game stick around and watch me play other games too. The reason why it’s a good game for a vtuber to play is because it’s very popular in vtuber and anime circles (aka people who would click on the vtuber tag). Playing a game like Genshin with an active community is the perfect game for finding other vtubers and streamers to make friends with (but you still can’t neglect being entertaining). Think about the type of person you want to hang out with. Are you a person that likes RPGs? Or FPS? Then target those games. Next step is to look for a high follower but low streamer game, this will give you consistent growth. Last is making friends with other streamers, this will open opportunities for raids and regulars in chat. This is all for Twitch btw. “Just be yourself” is the key to making it without burning out. I’d also recommend dabbling with TikTok for growth than spending time on YouTube videos unless you can afford an editor.

He's been raiding /asp/ so many times, it's so god damn annoying.

you know he's only doing it because he's scared as fuck about getting judged by schizos in /wvt/ or the even the front desk which is why he shits up the aspie thread of beginners.

that's awesome! i've been going for about the same amount of time with about a 10 ccv; i definitely get the feeling of no one showing up even at this point

I've found it helpful to just keep in mind future viewers. Also if you're on YouTube the CCV counter isn't exactly accurate or reliable. Even if it's just one friend watching quality > quantity, always. Inviting your audience to play games/draw together with you is really therapeutic too.

As much as I enjoy making examples of how to deal with thin-skinned toxins for /asp/ to observe, please try derailing future thread less if your illness permits it. Like >>19255339. Just don't engage and adapt, it'll get you quite far in life (and streaming).

Doubt it'll be seen since the thread is about to be gone, but I have about $3k I'm willing to spend between the model/rigging so I should be able to find someone good or decent.

Make sure your computer can handle the streaming software, model software, high-graphics game settings, and dual monitor too. VMagicMirror uses more resources than the games themselves for me.

Don't get too edgy and balance the level of detail with your overall design. Unless you have gestures/hand tracking it's not a priority, imo.

don't know where to put this but it's growth related so i'll ask aspies. what do you think is causing the difference in later gens growth?

nijisanji en has been pushing out a ton of waves but each wave grows slower and hits a cap sooner than the previous. males got a big buff from novelty but even males wave 2 is seeing the same growth pattern from Lazulight to Obysidia.

where as in japan, every new gen seems to be hitting milestones much faster and holoX skyrocketed much faster than any of the previous gens. looking at holoEN, wave 2 in the west is having the same trouble of not keeping up with wave 1 in terms of growth.

any idea what causes this pattern in the west but not japan?

Like him or not he's got a point though, it happens all the time where my chat mods need to remind chat the same. Shadow banning as a concept works really well.

I have a 3080, Ryzen 3900, and 32GB of Ram so I imagine I shouldn't have any issues. Worst comes to worst I can upgrade my CPU if I go need some extra performance.
