There needs to be some sort of distinction between more hardcore, character-playing, lore-driven vtubers and the other more casual vtubers that don't really distinguish their character from their real self. It seems like most of Hololive is falling into the later category.

I hate numberfags and just the general talk about how the industry is "dying" or fading just because things decrease a bit in the short term. This shit hasn't even PEAKED yet. I (and many others) thought the best we could get was Kizuna Ai, that the fad would stop there. There is still so much room for VTubers to grow. Anyone who doesn't see it is sorely mistaken. If you wanna be a VTuber, now's the best time to start before it truely "falls into mediocracy" and becomes so oversaturated.

It's already OK for indie VTubers to show their faces. They aren't bound by any company rules to protect their identities from schizo fans. It's up to the viewers to decide whether or not they want to continue watching people who reveal their faces on their active VTuber accounts. I hate the whole premise of this thread as though it was Coco who started some sort of trend that is spiraling wildly out of control, when her situation was entirely different. Her face was already on niconico before joining hololive. When she joined hololive, she still continued her activities on niconico (continuing to show her face). Not once, did she ever reveal or try to reveal her face as Kiryu Coco. She kept it on another account. Nowhere in any corporate VTuber company contracts that I know of does it prohibit you from continuing to use your other accounts as yourself and/or to post your own face on those accounts. It would be stupid to do that anyway, because that's some black company shit. Essentially banning you from being yourself until you leave the company. Even Rushia was somewhat active as Mikeneko and even posted her face on twitter a few times before all the drama struck. All of the VTubers in hololive interact as their past identities to varying degrees, whether they are full on active, infrequent, or basically abandonded. There is no "correct" way to do it because the contracts are not strict at all in that regard.
