What is the best way to acoustically treat a room in a rental apartment? That is to say, how can I hang acoustic foam without damaging walls?
I’ll also have to do this in the kitchen because I don’t really have any room in my tiny living room unless I were to put everything under the egress window and on top of the baseboard heater

No, there's no reason to. You can say it's getting harder, but new names still continue to crop up and there's plenty of early movies from 2019, 2020, and 2021 who still haven't even hit partner yet, or even declined. Most people don't do the bare minimum it takes to grow so there's an enormous amount of failure stories (along with an infinite amount of flat out boring people), but that's just what separates people who really want it from people who just think they can become successful by hitting "Live" and doing nothing else.

Don't think of it as an "indie vtuber" or even a "vtuber" thing. It's a streaming thing, and new streamers break out into the bigger numbers all the time. Don't let the quick success some people got warp your expectations, for most it takes years but at the same time realize that being good enough to "make it" isn't everyone. Some people just aren't entertaining.

Can anyone attest to having made friends through streaming? It's not what got me interested in pursuing this and not something I'm all that interested in making happen. If I happen to make some friends that would be cool, but it's not my motivation for wanting to do this. My ultimate goal is to land a spot at one of the big corpos somewhere down the line. Kek. Seriously though, I think everyone in the content creation sphere knows at least subconsciously that networking is half genuinely trying to make friends, half trying to gain something from each other, whether it's another more important connection or more followers.

This is especially true now that everyone and their mom is trying to do content creation one way or another.

I can only speak anecdotally, but my entire network of peers and actual friends I've madestems from me just joining one of those "who wants to collab?" posts you'd see a lot of a year ago. I joined, had my fun (didn't even stream my end), and kept in light contact with a few. Got invited to some other things by the more outgoing people who were more actively trying to make friends than I was (mainly just wanted to dip my feet into the whole collab thing since I was clueless and new). I got invited to more events which helped me meet more people some of which I kept in contact with, others I didn't. Rinse, repeat and I've got a lot of people I consider friends who I spend off time with chatting in various chuuba-friend-group discords, including a lot of people significantly bigger than I am.

Not saying just join a bunch of collabs with complete strangers and never work on yourself, but I think people should "put themselves out there" a bit more so to speak because really the only thing that could go wrong is a collab (that you don't even need to stream your end of) not being that great, and you're a 2view anyway so realistically who even cares and if you're actually just looking for friends then you won't make them waiting for people to come to you. It's a lot easier to make them being the organizer and not the participator.

I know the chances of making it in are nill if you don't know Elira, but holy shit I don't even think I'd want to be in Niji anymore. Another 5 members 2 months after the last 5? Yeah, to my knowledge that's using your gut voice, if you want to go below that you'd have to start messing with your vocal chords and constricting your throat for further changes which can lead to damage. It's a matter of training yourself to
A) Speak from you stomach unconsciously if you've learned to speak from your chest (typical if you grew up around women, I think)
B) Training your muscles in your stomach (such as the diaphragm) to be stronger and be able to speak for longer without tiring yourself out/getting breathless (breathing control+)
C) Practice to insure you don't unconsciously attempt to use your vocal chords to further deepen it, which may happen if you aren't properly used to it yet.
You can also train your neck muscles, which I've heard does help some people, but I don't think it will lead to any dramatic changes, just a small one if any.

I appreciate the feedback anons. Unfortunately I am quite partial to the model I have. That is to say, I spent a lot of money on it, but I do like my general design.

As with regards to my voice, that's just how I normally speak. I'm not doing a voice or anything. But I can see how it's off-putting. I've always hated how I sound desu but I haven't been much able to change it yet.

i really like your design, but it set super tiny on the screen and doesn't really stand out in a thumbnail. normally I think you shouldnt really need a layout to standout but I think you can benefit from one here so you can make your model bigger and not get in the way of the game, since it seems pretty clear you have it set like that so more details are visible, but it doesn't work when its not big enough to actually draw people in at a glance.
also, go look for the setting in vtube studio to stop your model from zooming around whenever you're leaning, it's really bad and honestly needs to be off by default

The thing is none of these things need to be perfect, or even that great aside from personality, they just can't be bad. A lot of them didn't start out with a great model, they started off with an alright one and as they got more money upgraded to something better (or "better" in some cases).

All already said aside your design is too wide which makes your placement on screen is barely visible and awkward. You pretty much merge with bg. I'm sure your artist drew arms and coat separately so either manually find are way to turn it off or ask rigger to make this coat as add-on if you plan to do zatsudans with it. Also since your model is so dark I heavily recommend to get light stream overlay so your avatar looks more defined. Your stream from preview glance looks like somebody without avatar gloging search.

Yeah, they don't have to be perfect, but what constitutes as "bad" as having its bar raised so normal is "not good enough" now. You're competing with the big shots, and even people who specifically target smaller vtubers to follow have a huge pool of other voices to choose from.

Vtubing is definitely synonymous to virtual idols that play video games. The top vtubers who can't sing are just an exception to the rule. Even the ones that don't normally sing CAN sing and do karaoke streams sometimes. I think Kizuna Ai is a good example, when she started she only did a few covers but she definitely still sing.

I don't think you should change your voice in any way, be it higher or lower. It's fine. I can't really remember the names, but I saw some trans chick vtuber consistently pull 300 viewers with her voice being not that far off from yours and her design was extremely feminine. The only difference was that she spoke with a lot more confidence. And there's literal babinikus like that doll dude who doing well. Don't get discouraged, who fucking cares, just like with real people, even if the voice is seemingly unfitting, it just grows on the viewer with time. Work on your delivery, not the pitch, the pitch is fine, you're gonna fuck up your throat and that's 10 times. You seem a bit too shy but I get it, it's hard to talk with no one in chat.

Now onto actual advice, your model is extremely small on the screen, hard to make anything of it, make it bust-up on and bigger when you're playing games. It's a nice design, but if you want to show it off, you can do that on a just chatting screen. Just a guess, maybe you don't grow because of your choice of games, I see you streamed 2 kind of games - the ones that have too many people streaming it and other doesn't seem to have viewers. While you're small, it's better to settle for games that have 100-200 viewers (like 2-3 rows of live streams so even if you're at the bottom, you're still visible), a lot of time people gonna come to watch you after someone from that category is done and you might even get a raid. Maybe the games weren't that bad and you just streamed them at the wrong time, it's extremely important to check how well game is doing before you go live. Good luck girl

PorcelainMaid/Joel is an extremely extroverted early adopted that also happens to be a good artist as well. If the trans chuuba is the one I'm thinking of (just heard people say it, not sure if it's true or not nor do i care), they're also an extremely popular artist. If it's Artsy, he's ALSO got an extremely popular PL before going from big, outgoing VRChat streamer to Vtuber.

I didn't know the leaning thing was an option I'm VtubeStudio. It was bugging me like crazy too so good to know I can turn it off. If I can find a way to turn off the back coat I will too.

I can't really find many overlays that mesh with my model. But I'll just have to look harder.

As for sounding shy, I am somewhat naturally quiet irl. When I'm with friends I'm much more expressive, but as I said my friends don't watch after the first couple minutes (though they claim they just don't like watching streams in general). When I'm just talking to me alone I tend to either get very ramble or incoherent, which I guess is something I've gotta work on too.

It's a good read and I practiced most of these irl but not all of them are applicable in the internet. I rely on body language and facial expression cues a lot so icebreaking is more difficult for me in the internet because I wouldn't be able to analyze their response
