You can always trim the branches if you absolutely need to. But it will be extremely difficult to avoid damaging your crops if the tree is in the direct center, unless you have a lot of prior experience. Unfortunately, there isn't much you can do there. My best advice is to wait until after you've harvested your current crops, then just fell the whole tree. Tough situation, really.
Then again, I'm not certified or anything. I'm only speaking off of my own experience with tree work.
