What is the appeal of vtubers?
Why do you guys like this stuff?

I just so happen to like some of the talents' personalities and the things they stream. I also think the avatar puppetry is cool. Somewhere along the way I also decided I want to become one myself. I've always had an interest in streaming but I didn't want to use a facecam

It's a platform for people who are afraid/don't want to/unable to use their real face to stream. And they normally have markedly different content to facestreamers. Content that I enjoy. Simple as.

Same appeal as pro wrestlers. They're obviously real people, pretending to be characters, but you as the viewer also pretend like they're real, making you part of their universe and storyline. It's all about immersion and escapism.

I don't care for GFE stuff, but I like some female presence because most of the content I'm interested in is made by men.

It helps that they're under contract to not discuss current events, politics, personal drama etc.

Without cams on at all times, the woman who do this can do so more relaxed and I think it makes them more open to talk about themselves personally. Not every vtuber is going to do so and no one will ever 100% be the person they are off stream, but I think it really opens them up to oversharing. They don't have to worry about appearance, titty streaming, sexual or rude comments about their actual physical appearance, how their room looks, something happening in the background of the camera, etc.
On top of all that, the judging a book by its cover doesn't fully apply to vtubing. There's still a little bit of it with the model design, but the most important thing is their personality, so to have people come to you constantly because of your personality is a real big confidence booster for the woman who have issues with that, which in turn makes them a lot more appreciative of their fans.

You did this to yourselves. While you're all too socially inept to hold a candle to actually making something out of forming and keeping relationships, your oshi is off meeting and fucking other guys.
You sit in your chairs throwing hundreds away in hopes that it will be enough to be your oshi's special someone.

They are modern-day geisha. Female performing artists and conversationalists who make their mostly male audience and clientele forget their worries for an evening, by being cuter, funnier, and more interesting than any real woman could be. The avatar just makes the illusion even easier to sell.

I'm not into most vtubers.
I do like most of Hololive because it's unabashedly japanese, cliquey but not "media incestous" cliquey like the rest of japanese streamers, most of them are fun to watch and know how to keep a stream entertaining and they play off cutesy character traits in a way that actually amuses me despite myself but is never taken too seriously either.

In short it's a form of entertainment that doesn't want to make me blow my brain out, unlike 99% of modern western entertainment post-90s.

Most entertainment, especially comedy, is dominated by men. Usually when women do comedy, it's all "my vagina" or reading jokes written by men. It's refreshing to see female streamers who manage to be entertaining without resorting to flashing their tits.

The majority of chuubas are fucking ass, especially Twitch thots. I watch Gura because she has a cute voice that calms me down and she says things that make me chuckle. She feels like someone I've always known, a part of me separate from myself and with a bunch of ideals I hold in high regard. I don't "simp" for her but I do care a lot about her, while understanding that she wears a disguise. Listen to her sing sometime.

>> No.18521450

Most of them are treating it like some kind of performance, not like most live streamers that just play games for donations. Also, some of them play games that aren't played to death (Gura-Bully, Korone-various retro games, etc). Character design makes it easier to look at also.

>> No.18521629

I like them when they're collabing together and having fun and being happy in their friendship. It's something I missed out on in life because I wasted my teens and 20s (I'm 30 now) and I'm just happy that younger people aren't making the same mistake as I am. Being a millennial sucks ass.

Based.
Literally zero talent from girl vtubers.
Before you try to deny it, ask yourself the simple question: if it was a boy, would you still watch?

Just the very fact that every time a girl mentions a male, so many people getting tilted proves it.

Ever watch Saturday morning cartoons? Imagine if the female characters you liked most and crushed on became developed on their own with agency and the va who worked for them decided to sit down too rp and interact with their adult fans. It's like that, there's this appealing blend of fantasy and a real person behind the scenes with a distinct personality. I can understand why some People are so against it and that there are reasons to be concerned that we could find it becoming a thing where it becomes too much of a substitute for interpersonal relationships in People's own lives. At the same time though, for unjust reasons or not, I wonder how many People have been saved from committing suicide during the past couple of years by having this as an outlet for affection and the need for bonding.
It's going to have to be a balancing act if the internet keeps on the same way and how Vtubing will develop further. There needs to be consciousness on both the part of the fan community and content creators that People still need to pursue a life beyond this medium of interaction and not let it become a complete place-holder. I'm liking the idea of a Vtuber or an agency of Vtubers who select fans who are expressing difficulties and lack of satisfaction in their social-live and having them go along on outings with them. Like how we have the Japan tour streams that a few Vtubers have done but where they accompany them on hidden-cam on speed-dating with an ear-piece in and give good advice or just enliven the mood.

I got into it because it was a good way to practice Japanese comprehension and I appreciated the effort to make anime real.
I was hooked on it once they started actively appealing to and interacting with foreign audiences. I like the international feeling it has.
Now, I love it because it's a form of multimedia entertainment with a culture that encourages fans to create all kinds of content (similar to Touhou or Vocaloid).
