You know what? I think that Vtubers may be the most advanced catfishing scam ever created. Instead of targeting specific individuals, an individual or company now can contract the work out to a wide variety of women who will pretend to fit into various niche cultures in order cast a wide enough net onto greater society to find the handful of men lonely and delusional enough to send thousands of dollars to a moving jpeg under the belief that she actually likes them.
The best part? They don't even have to be remotely attractive, and even when the scam is revealed hordes of their "fans" will white knight them and blame the victims for falling for the scam in the first place.
