I watch vtubers all over the place and never stick to one oshi. I watch streams exclusively for the game that is being played during it, and once the game is over I abandon to watch other stuff. I only watch VODs of games I like. If I happen to catch it live, I close the chat window entirely and fullscreen and pretend it's a VOD. I did this with coco's terraria. I did this with pekora's shadow of the colossus. I don't even know what numbers are I just treat vtubers as random let's players. Literally what the fuck is a stream.

The biggest appeal to me in general of watching chuubas is watching them react to certain games I like. I used to live in japan and they don't play a lot of western games there. That's why pekora's fallout 4 stream was so interesting, it was this weird mix of american history and literary narrative clashing with someone who comes from an entirely different culture. Watching marine play rimworld was also fun for a similar reason. Korone had some pretty cool things to say about doom and I'm glad she liked my boomer 'stalgia game. And coco put a big smile on my face with how vocal she was about getting hyper addicted to terraria and how much she enjoyed the core gameplay loop. Games are fun and I just like watching people be introduced to fun games they didn't know about. It's like getting your younger sibling to play a game you once played as a younger child and watching them uncover the same magic with it.

But then I got a chance to try other ones, and found less popular ones which I like more.
Most of my favs are between 10-20 in the ranking, but some are much less known.
Also, by watching the less known vtuber, you have a better chance to be noticed by her.

I just have 4-5 chuubas that I enjoy the most between personality / chat interaction / content choices. None of them are a top statistics streamer, and that's okay. Occasionally, I'll watch someone outside of that, but it's not common. Why would I care about them having top numbers? It's not like I'm their manager or CEO, so I don't get a cut of it. >> No.1847308

That's pretty normal.
I do end up watching a lot of games I wouldn't normally watch because my oshi still makes it enjoyable, but sometimes the game is just too monotonous and there's just not enough happening for her to keep it entertaining for very long. And then she streams it for 8 hours straight multiple days in a row.

corporate vtubers or anything with big numbers really feel dishonest. They really feel like they're just there for beginners. Just like what other anons here have said, indies and small time vtubers are more down to earth and have better interaction without using superchats.
