Depends, drinking every day starting from the afternoon would get you branded an alcoholic in the west.
But she's Japanese, so if anything she isn't drinking ENOUGH alcohol to be considered normal.

She admits to drinking a 750ml bottle of wine daily and we know she drinks plenty of beer and sake on top of that. Girl definitely drinks too much and it's definitely a chemical addiction at this point.

The thing you have to understand is Japan is very laid back and lenient in regards to alcohol consumption. There is no stigma. Drinking is a normal thing, and you are expected to do it socially at least. And I am heavy drinking, not just a beer. You are expected to get drunk at social gatherings. Having beer, or often a strong zero or 3 is also pretty common after work.

>> No.1792491

You can't believe the amount of beer cans in the garbage collection spot during the day they're thrown out, lmao. It was a big shock when I first moved.

I lived there for 2 years and I quickly began contributing my fair share to be honest. Cut down a lot since I came back to the states. If I could get strong zeros here, however.... that would be a problem.

>>1792385
As a non-drinker, that kind of social expectation and pressure to drink doesn't sound fun at all. I've heard it's common for bosses to push their subordinates to drink heavily as well.

>> No.1794395

>>1792552
At least in my workplace, before the pandemic, we would only go out to drink every few months. I'd drink strong zeros and vodka during weekends just so I have the tolerance to still go to work the day after we drink.

Drinking 750ml of wine a day (about 5 beers) with beer and wine on top of that would likely make her an alcoholic by American standards. She drinks more than 80% of Americans but not quite st the 90% range that requires of 10 beers of alcohol a day.
https://www.linkedin.com/pulse/20141118134649-20017018-do-the-top-10-percent-drink-you-under-the-table
She isn’t American though so this isn’t entirely relevant.

Never let your cup go empty during after work gatherings because your coworkers WILL continue to fill it for you.
And cultures vary. I believe the Romans thought people that never drank to be untrustworthy, since not allowing your tongue to be loosened by alcohol meant you had something to hide. I recall hearing that debates were held twice, first sober and then drunk.
People back then watered down their wine though. For the Greeks one of the cruelties written about the Spartans was that they made their slaves drink wine undiluted.

Not really; it's true that they didn't have any real way of measuring the alcohol by volume, but wine will never naturally ferment above ~15%, so at worst it would be unusually strong. They most likely watered it down because (a) it just tasted bad and (b) wanting to be able to drink more of it more casually.

If you ask on the Discord, they insist that it's just a character shtick, but I have my doubts. She plays it off in a comedic way, but I think she probably does have a clinical problem and just hasn't realized it because she's functioning and even found a way to make money off of her habit. But her liver doesn't becomes any stronger just because she has an audience.
