The point of equalization (which is the setting you're referring to) is not to warp your voice into sounding like something totally different, it's to emphasize the good sounding parts and reduce the bad sounding parts (in simple terms, I'm not an audio guy or anything). Obviously people use voice changers and shit but that's different.
It can also be used to cut out background noise like what Ame does since that tends to occupy the lower frequencies, though the last time she showed us her settings she was cutting out quite a lot of them.
