I highly fucking doubt the interest in San is from women, so much as men (which are like 90% of the audience for most Holos, as in like that is direct from internal documentation) simply see the idea as less threatening because it's a small weak girly-looking boy that you wouldn't really expect to be the initiator of relationships and if anything would be a bully target for adult women. EN shotas exist on Twitch they just suck mostly. A NijiEN's past life was sort of shota but he called it femboy (it was shota though) his voice really did not fit.
Women may not really stick around if there's no eye catching thing to get them to watch, even Masaru has a lot of men watching him (he is barely at 40% women watching him) even then, he is Japanese and voiced by a woman. Shotas are usually voiced by women anyway. It's harder for western men to pull off shota voice, however Asian men can do so easily.
You also have the western audience to contend with. If he looks too young and slutty, they will freak out. Gura is fine because her design honestly is not sexual. They would have to play a shota design safe. an EN Masaru with his ripped clothes and exposed navel would make people freak out I believe.

If you haven't heard of a host club that's what it is, that's what the target audience is. It's NOT (you). This is also explicitly why Niji's male EN branch is successful, it IS NOT a success in the West, it's a success in the East. They've said outright half their fucking viewers are in Japan alone and looking at their chats basically 95% of their audience is Chinese/Taiwanese/Korean/Sea women. It's a total fallacy to go "niji proved it works so Cover should do it" when Cover doesn't have a pre-existing base of millions of loyal fujo ladies in Japan that Niji does, nor is Cover exactly go territory in mainland China anymore. You see, the mainland effectively banned kpop there only about 3 months ago, women there have been looking for alternatives and vtubers are one of those avenues.

i agree with pretty much all of this except for the " it IS NOT a success in the West" part. While i agree that the majority of fans are eastern, a lot of the supas are in USD as well. Also the timezones create a disadvantage for westerners since most of them are in GMT and JST (though i do see some of Luxiem's streams are in PST and EST so that's nice). Most of the western fans may not put much money out, but they do make up a good portion of the chat and the comments on twitter, so that counts toward support. I think memes also help spread the word too kek but that's just my opinion and observation

i can't name more than 10 shota vtubers alone because not many people try it out. People are mostly into lolishit and i can for sure name more than 10 loli EN tubers.
