Nijisanji IS pretty different though. He shouldn't restrict himself to one corporation of course, but branching out to Niji (who are different enough to be fresh but not too different, or awkward like moving from Holo to 2view indies) and then from there to the people they collab with isn't the worst idea.

As far as NijiEN goes, Pomu and Selen are pretty good jumps from Ame, not sure about Gura though.

I took classes for about a year and a half and I can catch the jist of what's happening for chuubas who speak clearly.
Also if it helps, once you get basic grammar down the real thing you need is to just use the language, and streams are legitimately good listening practice since it's just people talking (mostly) normally.

As with anything, setting a realistic goal is crucial. It's impossible to understand 100% of what they said within the first year you tried learning. Anywhere from 50-70% is possible if you're diligent with your reps within 6-8 months or so.
Try to spice it up with vidya or simple manga to get your reading/vocab reps while keeping it fun as well.

But along the way you will be understanding more and more japanese media. Give yourself some sense of progress by reading tweets from your oshi and little one-liner fanarts.
Even after a short time you might be able to understand subtitled JP clips.

You can understand japanese on every step of the way to learning, so don't be daunted by how long it takes to actually just understand a stream.

First of all, memorize Hiragana and Katakana, it doesn't take that much time and gives you an insane confidence boost. Seriously, go to https://www.tofugu.com/japanese/learn-hiragana/ and start looking through it right now, I know how it feels to want to learn a fucking language but always feel like it's too big of a commitment, these concerns will get easier if you do this shit right here and now and see that tangible progress is very much in front of you.

After that, it's a toss-up, the tools people usually use to study Japanese are anki for kanji memorization and the yomichan browser extension as an easy way to scan words you don't know online and also make anki cards. You will need to look into setting these two things up but don't worry about it now. You'll also need to look into grammar guides at some point, do either Cure Dolly or Tae Kim. The most important part of it all is, ignore DJT schizos and do what feels right, but don't fall for reddit-esque toxic positivity either. Try to have fun by translating the type of content that you personally enjoy, mine words from it to put into anki, and read grammar at your own pace.

Learn Japanese. Those girls (in general) work way too hard for some English speaking hoes to turn you off of the whole company.
