Though I think in terms of making an interesting story, making the prepossesion Ina a generic bitch is a bit of an easy 'out' in terms of making her unsympathetic.
I think a good way to have that contrast while keeping the conflict between the normal girl and the ancient ones is if normal ina has the well, 'normal' person traits while AOs have the 'lore' traits, or something like that; basically have the ina we normally see be the gestalt combination between them but the uncombined splits have traits that make her 'incomplete' compared to when they're working together.

Even worse, I'm not a great story writer in general, so crafting an enjoyable story is hard enough already.

I genuinely want to write more about the classic hero's journey in a fantasy setting story. I want that shonen anime/jrpg plot progression, cheesy nomenclature of skills/weapons, and more than anything, the message of what it means to be a hero. I have already attempted it in HoloRealm, to not so much success, and The Hero's Fall, which received slightly better ratings. I still wish to continue HoloRealm in the near future, and I've written countless excerpts and scenes that I sorely wish to be able to use in the story as well. I look up to AA and his works in HF, it is amazing beyond words, but at the same time, it is not what I am seeking to tell in a story. I want a story of hero who rises, falls, and rises again. To be a symbol to those around him, but also remind us, the reader, that he is human. The clash of ideals between the mortal and the divine, the ramifications of large scale conflict between nations, and the simple confrontation of two forces and their ideals, culminating in a furious showdown of skill and wit. So many things I wish to convey in writing, sometimes immediately, but I know that by building a proper setting and story, the impact of these scenes will have the payoff I am looking for. I hope I can share that with you anons one day.

It was sort of hinted at in Ch. 6 Pt. 2 yet it's never come up at all, a subsystem I've had since the beginning where I expected Anon to get plastered. In the beginning, there was an invisible roll to determine how things in the world were. Out of every option ranging from nothing at all to cataclysmic tension, a relatively tame 2 out of a potential 6 was rolled. There's a world state that's directly tied to how things have gone so far in the story; while Anon can die, he's not the only one, nor is death/a bad end the only outcome to losing. Right now, this is still the best possible outcome, because despite everything, Anon's managed to come out on top of all of his encounters that really, truly mattered. There's a world out there where Polka had her heart pierced with her own sword, where Marine was knocked off her ship in a final desperate action to defend himself and went splat on the pavement below, where Noel was ran through. Where Mio really did lose her fucking mind due to crippling isolation in a world with a far bloodier history. But those are all what-ifs.

/wg/ is a floating island powered by a mishmash of technology and magic, having a non-standard flight route across the strange lands of the world of /vt/, making landfall at multiple cities/settlements. It is a city-state comprised mainly of scholars and aspiring scribes, although plenty of its residents are more than content with waiting for the latest epic to entertain them, or pore over older tomes. Many spindly towers dot the city, being the abodes of the great sages whom toil endlessly to give life to their creative visions. The gates of /wg/ are constantly open, allowing curious visitors to enter the city whenever the wondrous floating island makes landfall. Most of the time, it is simply the odd traveller wondering what goes on in such an odd city, but every so often they become enamored with the works found within the city, lighting a fire of creativity within themselves and they became yet another resident of /wg/.

The central attraction, and the perhaps the most important building in the whole of the city, is the Grand Library, or simply known as The Archive. Run by a single being who's age predates even the city itself, The Archive is the central hub, and the lifeblood of the city. It is where all works are scripted into tomes and kept safe within its bowels. They are free to be perused by all visitors, although at times some tomes are lost within the twisting aisles of The Archive. Whether those tomes are lost due to the shame of some sages, or a more sinister reason. Nonetheless, the custodian of the library, only known as The Archiver, not only maintains, but also improves the building for better accessibility for visitors. Rumour says that other talented beings have assisted him in this endeavour.

/wg/ also holds special relations with the drawthread, both being centralised outlets of creativity, although perhaps not exactly in the same vein. Often times, citizens of /become/ and /infinity/ would have extended stays within the city, either as one of the few shelters who still remember their namesake, or as a sort of forgotten mentor for their own archive. /wg/ does not judge, they only write.

However, as pretty and sophisticated as teh city looks like, it holds a dark secret. At the toll of dusk, the shadows in the streets grow longer, and deep within the bowels of the floating city, a great evil awakens. This evil is superfluous, taking many different forms. Sometimes it impersonates another sage, fooling those less aware. Sometimes it takes the form of cackling voices, fearmongering the supposed fall of the city, or ironically trying to speed up the death of itself. Whispers among the people say that it often takes the form of a man wearing the skin of a female rabbit, luring the less fortunate into doom. Although not etched within the official history of the great city, every sage, scribe and traveller has heard of The Cursed Night, where the city was at war with itself against a seemingly invisible enemy causing a schism between its people, who until now the scars are still deeply ingrained within the psyche of the floating city itself. Do not say this out loud, as the memory haunts the people, and threatens to bring the whole city into yet another Cursed Night.

Yet through this all, /wg/ stands proud, where the sages continue to create works of wonder for all to see and enjoy. Even those with the most degenerate desires can find something for themselves here, all they need to do, is look for it.
