The real magic was the booze we drank along the way.
In truth, the memes were awful and it was all about her banter with the guests, for example Korone, Moona and Matsuri. Looking back from a distance, I would rate the whole series as 25% amazing/top tier, 50% "that was fun" tier, 25% meh/cringe tier. For almost a yearlong series, that's pretty good. Coco was so-so in large group collabs, but 1-on-1 she could be amazing.

Meme reviews are always shit because they can't show anything that could potentially have copyright issues and they rarely show anything that isn't Hololive-related
Coco doing it was a bit of a unique thing just because she could actually understand the meme + context and translate it for the JPs which was part of the appeal for EOP viewers
Kiara is the only Holo I could reasonably see fill Coco's shoes in this regard but she's Austrian so she's completely devoid of humor.

The first few meme reviews were fine, the issue was that eventually it became the only thing Coco could do so it became stale and played out, like an aging comedian doing the same routine he did 20 years ago because it's the only thing he knows that works

I don't think that it works like that.
Because, before and after Pewdiepie, there already were hundreds or even thousands of meme review shows/formats, so Coco's would be thousandfold rip-off.
And in some sense, it's quite possible that there were even vtubers who did something similar to meme review before Coco, like asking fans to do some funny content for them and then reviewing it.
The reason why people consider Coco's meme review successful, is because:
1. It was constant
2. Coco gathered a pretty big fanbase even before her first meme review
3. Invited guests pulled their own fanbases to watch meme review
4. Youtube algorithm boom happened right before she started doing meme reviews
To me, it's pretty clear that her meme reviews were popular mostly not because of their quality, but because of those points. If you watch Mumei's meme review, you'll clearly see that it's on the par with Cocos or even better in quality. Also, we've yet to see a promised meme reviews from Mysta from NijiEN. I am particularly interested in those, because male humor is objectively superior to female humor.

It was low tier content to begin with, fuelled by the actual lowest tier of reddit "humour." The guests' reactions were a slight plus, but even then, the shitty reddit memes just weren't good content.
