Yeah that's not actually a thing beyond a small niche. I literally never ever was impressed with her right from debut and that is clearly how most viewers reacted. The benevolent excitement of "wow!! a new Holo!!" star power lasted not even a week with her while it's still that "this is so cool, I'm so glad this person is here now" feeling is still going for Laplus, Iroha etc. Part of it comes from apparently her being sort of Haachama-ish in being hafu or otherwise somewhat foreign - to be an exotic foreigner type works when you are visibly very different from the usual fare like Coco or Haachama, however Lui is both ordinary-seeming but also foreign-ish I think in her case only serves to make her distant and unrelatable from the JP audience view.

And while it's perhaps unfair to compare anyone to the abysmal failure that is Council, they and the rest of EN continue to show that their inflated sub counts compared to JP don't actually result in more viewers. There's no metric by which Lui isn't a success until we have more long-term growth but even in the limited term she already shits all over Council and is competitive with the rest of her gen.
