Basically Cover wanted Holostars EN. They told the EN management team to do it.
EN management didn't want StarsEN. So they reached out to some mid tier talent, got them to sign some non-disclosure agreements prior to negotiations, did a lot of groundwork to appease their bosses, arranged a licensing deal with a certain tabletop RPG company.
Then proceeded to sabotage everything at every step until the guys they'd lined up all left in frustration and the aforementioned company went "fuck this we out, never talk to us again"

EN management then went back to their bosses at Cover and blamed everything on everyone else.
For some stupid fucking reason they bought it.

Shame too as the fundamental idea was actually fairly good.

But I work at a certain tabletop RPG company and was involved in our side of the project.
They licensed our most famous product and I was involved in a lot of the writing and planning parts.
Which is how I wound up falling down the vtuber rabbithole since I needed to familiarise myself with it.

Their basic proposal was to do something similar to Critical Role or Myths TTRPG streams. But with much much higher production values.
That would be their main group content putting out a planned two streams a week each one a few hours long.
Complete with music, sound effects, art assets and so on for all environments and scenes. Also 3D animations of certain scenes as a kind of highlight reel of the past week.
There was even talk of developing in house or licensing a 3D TTRPG tool that could then be used with it.

We were very excited on our end. Our flagship product still sells well. But we're always looking to the future and new ways to market/attract attention.
So when we heard that the talent had all thrown in the towel out of frustration with EN managements behaviour we were very concerned.
Not long after that they stopped replying to our inquiries on the matter and refused to tell us what was going on only that "they would be in touch and we should proceed as planned" so we basically put the brakes on everything and demanded answers, threatening to walk out on the contract.
It was only then CoverEN officially told us that all their talent had bailed. Which we already knew but they'd never confirmed.
So we bailed. Very strong words were said by our management since they'd already sunk a fair bit of time and money into this project with nothing to show for it. A lot of the art assets can be reused. But thats not the point.

I do know their nationalities however and what characters they were slated to play.
Their characters were written and designed after they'd been recruited which as I understand is the opposite of how Cover normally operates. So they got to have quite a lot of input into them.

British guy 1: Easily the oldest of them. I reckon around 30. He was billed to play a human fighter. Memes aside CoverENs initial design for his character was complete ass, looking like a background character in an isekai anime. We redesigned him to look more flamboyant and older. Basically Kruber from Vermintide. Its a good look for the mercenary fighter schtick.

British guy 2: Youngest judging by the pitch of his voice. He was going to play a halfling rogue. Again a memeable classic combo. His character had to be toned down somewhat from CoverENs initial design as it was waaaay too edgy looking and covered in belts. We didn't really get what they were going for but they approved our redesign anyways so...whatever?
Judging by his personality though I think he'd have had to go sooner or later. He was a bit of an edgelord.

French guy: Originally going to be an elf wizard. He referenced the meme from D&D 3.5 about a level 1 wizard being almost guaranteed to lose in a fight against a domesticated housecat. This seemed to trigger the only real burst of energy and passion for the project we got out of CoverEN and they redid him as a housecat wizard. Everyone thought it was hilarious and we were going to run with it.
There was actually quite some excitement on that one as we considered it highly merchandisable.

Scandi guy: Never actually found out what country he was from. One of those though. Human cleric. Nice guy, very supportive and friendly. I do know he was/is a videogame streamer though. Does a lot of indie games.
His design was pretty basic like the original one for Brit 1 but it worked a lot better than that one did.
His english was so so. He'd pronounce things wrong or misunderstand things every now and then.

Italian: Human bard. This guy could actually sing, spoke five languages (also sang in them) and played about eight instruments. CoverEN said he'd had a physical album published in Italy but never said what it was called.
He was actually pretty funny too, very charming. Good fit for a bard really.
His original design was also very bland and had to be spiced up with some colour and facial hair.
