Hi, numberfagger here.

I see a lot of bait threads in the catalog right now referring to low numbers and thought I'd give everyone an update into what's going on for those who (understandably) don't want to wade in to /#/

Around the 26th of December CCVs started to inexplicably drop. At first it was assumed this was like the 2020 cull where CCVs across the board got slashed one day due to Youtube adjusting it's algorithm. As time has passed it has become more and more clear this is not like 2020, a "one and done" deal. This is getting progressively worse over time.

From what we've been able to understand at the moment it appears individual Youtube accounts are being flagged for "spamlike" activity and no longer contribute to the viewcount for ANY stream they watch. You can confirm if you're a bot by disabling your adblocker and joining a 2 view stream and seeing if the viewcount raises within 30 seconds to a minute.

Numbers for all Holos are currently at an estimated ONE THIRD of what they should be. Yes that means Pekora got 120k for her Pokemon Tournament, yes that means Towa got 70k for her 3D live.

This effect is becoming worse over time as more accounts are getting flagged every day. The reasoning is unclear but it possibly has to do with spamming emotes in chat or some other suspicious "botlike" activity that is common among vtuber fans. As a result CCVs are starting to tank into the 3 digits even for vtubers who clearly have 2000 or more people watching.

Until this is completely figured out I'd recommend not engaging with any posts that use low CCV as bait.

There are variances that mean the effect is hitting different vtubers in different levels of severity. We're not sure why right now, Mel and Aki Rose have been reduced to literal 3 views while some others are chugging along with only a 10-20% drop. It might have something to do with the amount of crossover the vtuber has between their fans and other vtubers.

I've had my suspicions about this phenomena for a while. Though, as a longtime watcher of Sana and other poorly performing holos like Anya you see a situation like this all the time with likes. Sana will often get 5k likes on a stream but average 2.6k viewers. What I think is happening is that peoe tune in for the stream, drop a like, and then leave. The same thing can happen with poll votes.

I suppose it would depend on how long the poll is open, but the poll tracks unique views more than concurrent viewers because it counts people who only tune in for a few minutes before clicking off just like the like count.

Huh? The subscription numbers aren't the problem. The problem is there are more poll votes than current viewers in those pics. Kronii's even has double her current viewers.

Keep in mind you can only vote if you have a youtube account and are logged in. On twitch, a streamer is lucky to get even 30% of their current viewers to vote during polls, so the Holos' real live viewer count is likely triple or quadruple what is being displayed.

I think that is somewhat understandable, though I do think that their CCV is wrong.
But the view count tracks everyone who enters a stream no matter what as a view at the end. For example here is a stream I had a few days ago, ended at over 3k views, but a viewer amount topping at 760. Average view duration was only 7m so a lot of people click on, and leave after a few minutes.
I do often click into those type of streams, watch a few minutes, and then go about my day. So while the CCV is weird, I don't think its as bad as people think.

Very few channels can even break 30% participation, 50-60% is an engagement rating wet dream. 100% is impossible simply because people not logged in cannot vote, and 120% is literally african warlord voting tier.
The sole explanation is the shown live-viewer numbers are significantly(as in 50% or more) lower than actual live viewer numbers.

No it doesn't. Superchats and memberships have nothing to do with with CCV. Ad revenue also has nothing to do with it because youtube uses their own bullshit algorithms to determine that just the same as they do with CCV in the first place. Sponsorship opportunities don't have much to do with it either, because sponsors usually look at your subs not CCV.

Also, the reason Aki Rose cried about her sub count was because she felt like she wasn't pulling her weight when other members who were far newer and her gen mates had more subs. Subs aren't CCV either so it's completely unrelated to what you're saying.
