I never gave a fuck about them, but the other day youtube recommended a random ass 50 viewer stream to me and it happened to have a KFP artist as moderator and the chuuba was said she was KFP, so I kinda stuck with it and now I'm a bit more interested in indies.

At the beginning it was just Vtuber hype and finding out one of the new Holo girls is german. So wanting to support a fellow german was a big factor in the beginning. First few months were rough, but I had the feeling she had the potential to become a great streamer. I've talked about it before, but basically I spent a long time during 2019/2020 thinking that vtubers weren't really for me because the most visible ones weren't my cup of tea, and therefore I never bothered to investigate beyond them. I accidentally discovered Kiara because a friend mentioned her offhandedly, and the combination of JRPGs (my favourite genre), German and Japanese (the two languages I have studied), and her idol past (I used to be an idolfag years ago) immediately attracted me. Took me too long to discover her but it was a pretty quick conversion, especially since her accent triggered a lot of nostalgia for my childhood spent partly living in a German-speaking country. Quickly fell in love with her passionate, sincere personality and have grown to admire her strength and perseverance—she couldn't fit the 'phoenix' moniker any better. Honestly would be difficult to tailor a more perfect oshi for me.

I started watching vtubers with Miko and Pekora mostly, but I don't understand JP and it was hard to keep following them, so I decided to try EN instead. I started with Mori, but soon I subscribed to all of Myth and tried watching them. And I fell in love with Kiara after watching her Fire Emblem streams. I think Kiara hit the jackpot for me because she was the perfect balance of safe and novelty for me. Safe for being a fan of jrpgs, for being so into japanese culture, for being horny for girls all the time, etc. But also novelty because of her sensibility, specially at those earlier times, her lack of "gaming skills", which she compensated with her enthusiasm, and her very, very girly persona. I think Kiara is amazing and very endearing for being so upfront and honest about her feelings and this side of her make me wish from the bottom of my heart that she finds happiness (and Christ) someday.

Started with clips in general. The usual ones from Korone with her English streams, Miko's 'Niggah' moment, etc. Watched a bit of Gura and Mori, stumbled into Kiara with "AM FROG" and the Uno collab and decided to check her out with all the shitposting on here. She was in the depths of her depression and my saviourfag feelings kicked in. Looking at videos on her list, it looks like the first real one I fully watched was her Superchat reading right before the Uno collab. I really remember feeling for her while she broke down about moving back and dug up general info around here about what happened.
She was a sweetheart, forward, emotional, extremely feminine, and overshared and it just clicked with me. Her Ryza stream after that one was an emotional rollercoaster and her talking about having someone standing over her in the middle of the night after a break-in on a vacation with family just made me speechless and made me want to support her and make her feel better. Digging made me want to see her succeed and July/August was an amazing time for her, despite some setbacks. It felt so good to see her succeed. I started gosling a little before July when she started getting cheerier and I'm glad I get a diverse, cute, feminine woman to give me soft GFE.

So, I had just gotten into Vtubers with Marine and Pika clips. But honestly I didn't actually like their streams, just the amusing clips. So I did a little research, found out about HoloEN. I wasn't sure about it at first, but then I went to the TV Tropes page (the one that a fan would later tell Tenchou about and she was a little insulted by the tropes they used). The page recommended that I check out Takamori because almost everything that early that ever recommended Kiara only did so in a way that was actually recommending Mori - but when I saw that first Takamori Minecraft, I found Kiara joyous and full of life, the easy highlight of the stream. So sweet and clingy in that cute sort of way. I didn't like Takamori even then, but Kiara was so earnest about it I rooted for her anyway. I could detect the signs of her own fatigue with it way back in March, so that's when I personally dropped my support of the ship, but that's incidental.
Some of those early streams were a little rough, but her improvement every single stream was so clear. I remember she had so many problems, whether they be technical problems, problems with her own execution of gameplay, emotional struggles. But she actually crushed a lot of those problems overtime. And then, she started refining so many things about her stream. Her growth in terms of being an entertainer was incredibly impressive. She struck me as one of those people who's pretty good at making long term adaptations. And on top of that, she's just so cheerful, vivacious, sincere, emotionally raw, and willing to talk straightforwardly. Most of all, her passion just makes her so attractive, both as a streamer and a person.

Depends on the perspective, I guess. To me, one thing that draws me close to Kiara is how much I can emphatize with her as someone who's also from Europe. The way she talks about things make immediate sense to me. I mean, in a cold corporate sense you can pretty much boil down any "number to monitor how well you're doing" in one single metric - money. At the end of the day, unless you're doing it just as a hobby for the fun of it with no profit motive, if you're doing this for a living as a job to pay your bills it's certainly the most or only important performance indicator. Everything else is just incidental and subsumed by this, any other metric is just a proxy for money in the end. For example, all that fretting about the number of views, why do they matter? Beneath using them as a crude yardstick for "popularity" (and shitposting against others with it, as if that were a competition), it's not that views itself directly pay money, but just that views only matter insofar as higher views are correlated with higher potential to make more money in the end (through ad impressions, donations, memberships, sponsorships, etc.).
Of course that's a cynical way to look at it, but it's probably what makes the most sense of things because in the end this is all a business, so even if the vtubers themselves don't look at it from such a cold perspective, and honestly believe in all the "I just want to entertain people and bring joy to their lives, uwu.." idol fluff, the company behind them certainly does, because it would go bankrupt if it didn't, and it has investors who put money into them not for any naive feelgood idol dream but because they want to see a return and profit on their money.

They've already started getting their hooks in a long time ago. The small content creators are not who they're catering to anymore and it hasn't been that way for a long time. You could argue that they have some level of relationship with Cover as a whole, but it's obviously not as important as, say, NBC. I know where you're coming from, but the corporate ties have long been in place and unless you're a MAJOR player in media, they won't do anything real for you, perfect example being the dislike removal.
