1543952 No.1543952 [Reply] [Original]

How the FUCK am I meant to cope with the fact that every single of them is going to graduate some day? It comes closer with every stream. Perhaps even some of the older holos have already passed the half way point in their vtubing careers and are now closer to the day they will graduate than the day they debuted. I feel like I'm going to be rewatching old vods in a decade and cursing old me for not taking in the moment enough. Anyone else feel like this?

When they do graduate, you'll always have the good memories and archives to look back on, so you're not losing what you already had. Sad as it is, everything goes away in the end: vtubers, people, the solar system, even the universe on a long enough time scale. We can't control these things, your oshi could die of a brain aneurysm tomorrow and never stream again. The only thing you can do is enjoy life to the maximum while you can; let the ephemerality of it all motivate you to have the best life you can.

I would think the older ones would be more likely to stay. Less adventurous, less likely to have kids (or already have kids and manage to vtube), fewer alternative prospects. They really don't have a reason to graduate anytime soon. The avatar doesn't age. The only thing would be if their voice changes too much as they get older, but older voice actresses in their 60s can still do the same voices just fine.

As someone who's gone through a lot of tragedy in my 30+ years on this planet it usuall goes like this.

The time leading up to is generally a sad one, the actual day is quite heavy, lots of crying, maybe anger, usual 5 stages of grief, now you think you're done crying but you ain't, you're reacting to what is happening, but in a few weeks you'll think "boy I really wanna see so and so again", then it hits you, you can't, they're gone, just their memories remain.

THEN it really hits you and you probably cry the hardest.

If its sudden, say they just graduate with no fanfare/they die, its a similar phase, but the initial shock is the hardest, just constant questions, anger over what happened, then what settles is things left undone, shit you wanted to see.

Far as pain goes, it really depends on what it meant to you, most pain you simply learn to live with, after awhile it kind of fades, something you'll be reminded off it here and there, the longer time passes the more it slips away from you, sometimes you don't even remember when they passed because its been so long.

Nothing lasts forever, specially when it's good.
People keep moving on forward with their lives. In the end, all the people you ever met will be gone some day.

We cannot stop time. In the case of vtubers graduating it's kind of a stranger feeling for me because I know (in most cases) the persons behind the avatars are still out there leading their own lives, but the identities they leave behind stay around as a remnant of what they once meant for many. Meanwhile the other vtubers who they had a good friendship with keep going and it makes their already small world feel even more lonely. Then there's common practice of purging everything when a vtuber retires, which almost seems like a symbolic death.

You can't be alive if you're not also dying. It's the price we pay for existing. Ephemerality is the ultimate source of value.

It's not just old people that up and die, either. Any of us could eat it at any moment for any fuckshit reason. Hell, one wrong step and you're at the bottom of a flight of stairs with a broken fucking neck. I'm only 27, but I'm years older than all my dead friends.

To quote a great old meme: "will you fight? or will you perish like a dog?"

Yes, you're right. It's tough. Call your family regularly and enjoy each other while you can. If anything is on your mind, say/ask it now (Sudden deaths do happen).

I'm still not sure how to cope with death, but this thread has good advice: Accept the impermanence of all things, live purposefully in the moment as much as possible, and my own advice: Focus on what's within your control (not death).
You're strong; we all are. United in our experiences of life and death, we are all connected by our mortality. Somehow, that we will all face the same fate one day, gives me some comfort. Similarly, the idea of palliative care gives me comfort with death - doctors aren't trying to 'save' us, but give us enough time/comfort to pass with peace.
If it's hard to convince oneself, experts (Hospital chaplains are surprisingly good even if you're not religious, psychiatrists, others?) may help. Just ask your general physician next time you're in for a checkup and they'll most likely be able to connect you with appropriate support. Alternatively, there are a ton of books on the topic of mortality. For me, I like talking in person.

Good luck to all of us!

>> No.1557037

>>1556944
One more thing: If you do know someone who's passed, I've found it helpful to think of how they would want you to live. It's easy to be depressed for months (exact time varies widely, so don't worry about your personal timeline) not sure what to do since nothing feels right. You can always ask how the deceased would want you to live, and it's most certainly happily, safely, and comfortably. Make them proud.

*This all somewhat applies to VTubers too, of course.
