I think, with extremely few exception, the indies have seen NijiEN as a way to simultaneously get in the spotlight, but also get gamer friends
They don't have to essentially sleep with Troon to get a nod from HoloEN, nor do they have to listen to pinkocatto or melody harp on for hours about what they want for Vshojo

Generally Hololive offers a very curated and high quality experience. The issue is the lack of intimacy and personal connection. It's why it're more fulfilling to support a 50 viewer vtuber than a 500 viewer one or a 5000 viewer one.
And honestly nearly everyone they got in Hololive is quality talent. They're all really skilled. It's not just the company name pulling weight. Smaller vtubers don't have the support network or access to these skills.
Some of them are OBJECTIVELY worse.
