That's nice but I can't feel anything about it. AI and Kaguya Luna were my intro to vtubers, but I only remember Luna from time to time because she left a mark. AI was too... safe and corporate, by design. And then the company fucked her up, just straight up ruined her shit with the clones and the VA change. Kizuna AI might be the most recognizable and popular (theoretically) in Japan and Asia, but she's a hollow idol. It's the same thing like if BMW had a vtuber mascot. Who would care and why? It would in the end be nothing more than a corporate mascot like AI has become.

It's not necessary to compare AI to Gura as "the face of vtubing" because I'm willing to bet my balls that even the strictly JP side of things has far more genuine attraction and attachment to girls like Pekora, Korone or Marine. AI is just a hollow idol and that's the bottom line. Her numbers may be great, but even much, much smaller chuubas mean more to the actual audience.

She already lost that title years ago. She's the face of vtubing to people who don't know what modern vtubing is aka casual Japanese normalfags who saw her on a billboard or something once. That is who she is marketed towards still actually considering she doesn't actually get much attention relative to l2d streamers these days, a trend she only dabbled in but never really embraced. Whether that's on her or activ8 I dunno, all I can say is that her short premade videos, covers, and her """gaming""" ""streams"" being like 10-20 minutes every couple of weeks just doesn't cut it for the modern scene and she is now obsolete.

If Kizuna adapted fully into the constant livestreaming thing maybe she'd have kept up, but she didn't really, she was just held onto as a disconnected commodity to market around at stuff, again I don't think it's really her fault as she doesn't really have control over what she is. The whole disembodied corporate mascot thing is just very reminiscent of how corpos have always handled 2D characters, she is treated almost-exactly like Miku or a popular anime character as opposed to a living entity.
