It wasn't until holo EN that I became interested in vtubers, and I was excited by actual girls who could speak in a cute voice in English (not dub voices, those aren't cute), who was into games, anime, and japanese culture, who were my people. Kizuna Ai has some impressive skills, and in her latest concert tour in the US her dancing was great, but she isn't the type of vtuber that I like, had a honeymoon period with, and still watch.

I'm a newfag when it comes to this vtuber thing but I watched her when she first started uploading. Had to unfollow since I didn't have the time or drive to watch everything she uploaded. The VA Drama only made that worse and when vtubers blew up in 2020 I had already expected her time was ending soon.
This is her swan song and while people will miss her glory days, I don't there there's many will miss the latter half of her career.

Yeah, my first exposures to vtubing were her saying fuck you and playing 100% OJ. Luna is the first VTuber I really paid attention to, though; probably because her shorter videos worked better with my negative attention span, and I liked her design and voice more.

Any "rebirth" would have to be at her own company. So if "indefinite hiatus" is due to her being "updated", then there's probably plans for her to return in a new form using new tech that they're hoping to be on par in popularity with how the metaverse and NFTs are now in tech circles. VTubers can't be stuck in the streamer format forever because that's such a waste of the concept. So perhaps it's a last ditch effort to update the industry she created.

I first saw her on New Year's Eve 2016, so I guess soon after she was revealed? I remember the date, and sharing a laugh with my roommate that "Japan is finally taking waifus to their logical conclusion, huh?" I watched her videos here and there, but Kaguya Luna truly made me actually appreciate/enjoy baacharu yuuchuubas as a content style. Yet I fell out of watching even Luna by mid-2018? Somewhere around there.
I didn't re-discover chuubas until someone linked me to a clip of Coco in Feb of 2020, and a week later saw her as the OP image for a thread on /jp/.

Watched Ai, Kaguya, Mirai and Noja Loli all at once for a straight year. Tried to get some weebfriends into it with little success. I remember listening to Noja talk about wanting to do something other than work at his part time job or something.

Kaguya was the last one I remember watching at all. Then after that I totally forgot about vtubers, watch a Mito stream, blink, suddenly it's everywhere, no one even talks about the "old ones", watch a FBK clip, and I get sucked into Hololive and Nijisanji entirely.
