I've come to realise that the "Council - what went wrong?" thread is a source of comfort for many people. How did Hololive English go from being what looked like an unstoppable juggernaut to struggling to break 10k for most of their streams?
1. They took too long to release a second gen, five vtubers couldn't carry a gen for an entire year.
2. Dead hours. That gave fans time to look around at their competition.
3. Complacency, too much coasting on the brand. They let Irys model get a pass, Gura's rigging get a pass, awkward default poses for a lot of the marketing and advertising get a pass. And many minor things, that alone don't mean much but slowly, bit by bit degrades EN's branding.
4. Lack of competitiveness and enthusiasm: Gura herself says she doesn't want to be the number one Holo. A lack of content when there a long breaks, it seems like Ame and Bae are the only ones that realize that they can upload shorts and prerecorded videos. Im not saying o work harder but a a certain level of enthusiasm is needed to even consider working smarter and looking for workarounds.
5. Everyone is not on the same page.
Chuuni-fag management should hire chuuni talent, and anti-chuuni management should just so go normal streamers. Why isn't Omega hiring more writers/storytellers, homebrew GM/DMs, hire more thespians, talent who are genuinely into theater and that stuff?
Constant collab banning Kiara and Mori. If collabs are a problem, don't hire talent that would rather want outside collabs, and conversely, don't hire a bunch of wallflowers and think expect collabs like Umisea to turn out to be any good. Don't hire anti-idols in Japanese company.

Bae has been on a limiter the past month so I wont judge her hours. Given the variety in her content and how many projects she has in the pipeline, December will be an interesting month for her since that is when she can fully commit to streaming.
Sana seems to be doing well after the break. She has done the Kiara and has secured herself a good amount of donors. If she enters the Hololive pokemon tournament and do well then she will get a decent boost from that.
Fauna is the most stable. Her gaming content is the best in Council in my opinion. Don't care about ASMR but its nice for someone to fill in that niche.
Mumei has been doing great in November. She's a lot more confidence now compared to her debut month. Too bad December will slow her down, but she can hold her numbers with karaoke streams.
Kronii is the big question mark. Had a massive start but has done everything to debuff herself. Thankfully its easier to have a strong start and get your numbers back than the other way around. Just depends on the type of games she streams this month and the frequency.

I don’t see why people have to be so tribalist, I’m happy watching Kronii, IRyS and Fauna, I literally don’t have time to watch every EN chuuba especially as an Anglo. Well lets step back and look at the rankings in terms of subs:

Kronii leads the pack with Mumei following 100k behind her.
After that you got Bae and Fauna trailing behind Mumei by a sizeable but not quite as big gap.
Then you got Sana who has less than half of Kroniis subs almost half Mumeis subs.

So Kronii and Mumei are definitely the winners of Council.
But why?
Well with Kronii I'd say her voice and generally being chill is a big factor. She's lacking that manic energy that most vtubers try to capture which definitely sets her apart from the crowd and attracts a following.
Helps that her fuckups and suffering are generally amusing.

Then you got Mumei.
Mumei is great. She's got that same chill factor as Kronii, is generally endearing but has more energy than Kronii that mainly manifests when she gets annoyed with something or unzips her serial killer/war criminal streak.

The important thing is these two both provide something thats fairly rare in streaming and among vtubers. Relaxed and chill personas.
You got one like that in Myth in the form of Ina but her voice can be a turnoff for some.

Sana has a weak model and took a huge break too early in her career, which completely killed any chance she had to gain momentum.

Baelz and Fauna are solid characters that a lot of people are going to really enjoy, but a lot of other people are going to find annoying for various reasons. Having well-defined extreme personalities serves them well in collabs, but makes it harder to succeed as someone's favorite solo streamer.

Mumei was a really popular character, especially in collabs, but also an incredibly simplistic character that was probably pretty boring to play. She's been expanding the character by leaning into a psychopath bit that had early popularity because of how drastically different it was from how she is most of the time. Appears to be missing the fact that the more she does it, the harder it is to retain the audience who liked the original simplistic personality.

Kronii doesn't have an extreme personality or a voice that's going to grate on some people, so it's easier for her to have mass appeal. She's just not all that ambitious, so she isn't working to grow her audience.

Her problems are, IMO, her shyness and low energy that makes some people find her boring, this is especially bad in big collabs where she is just there barely interacting with anyone. The fact that she also went from having a really consistent schedule and time to whatever the hell is she doing nowadays with really weird time choices plus multiple breaks nearly every week leading to a fairly low amount of content is certainly not helping, Mori streamed nearly 3 times what she did in November for example.

She also did some really dumb stuff like avoiding the server around the time when they joined the servers to do dumb speedruns that went nowhere certainly didn't help her numbers.

Disagree. You need to debut new people to generate hype/interest, and hopefully you strike it well with one in which they draw in an audience you had limited to no access to attention wise. Five people can only have so much appeal to others, especially when in regards of times they tend to stream. They probably need another generation in another four or so months to plug in the dead NA time along with not putting as much stress on those that exist to stream. As always a new hotness often lights a fire under certain people's assets to stay relevant.

My rrat is that the other two members of Fauna's trio will get in. Vivi is one of the best EN entertainers out there and Shadow would be ideal cunny little sister experience (with crazy mixed in). 100% either of them would've gotten in instead of Fauna because she was easily the least entertaining of the three (I don't dislike her at all, I watch all of them, it's just literally facts she was the least attention grabbing of the three). Continuing in nepotism but less talented streamers, someone like Munibug could be nepo'd in or Yuria.

Other three places, ideally someone like Nina as a singer. There'll inevitably be one huge content creator pick, probably someone like Bao (please no). I think it would be funny if we had a company betrayal, either a NijiEN or a Vshojo. Also there'll be someone completely unexpected, aka a literal 2view. None of you will know who they are except their 4 active viewers (probably here).

Mumei gave SCs the Ina/Ame treatment for a while both due to nervousness and due to her phone battery problem and not wanting end-of-stream SC readings to cut into the meat of her limited stream time. Instead she’d occasionally do SC reading/zatsudan streams where she’d select a few SCs to use as conversation topics, then get sidetracked by weird shit. Lack of attention to SCs caused SC revenue to drop while the increasing backlog made acknowledging them even more of a problem.
Nowadays she doesn’t have the battery problem, so she does SC readings at the end of her streams to avoid creating another backlog, and the time it takes for her to realize that SCs are still on seems to be increasing. This is a recent development, so time will tell if that helps her on that front.
She’s at the top of the pack in sub growth, CCVs and members, so it’s not like she’s trailing, merely that Kronii was able to get an early lead. At the same time, she was second to Sana in stream time in November, so more streaming isn’t going to solve the SC issue.
