There are people who obsess over all of the technicalities, and then there are artists who just do not give a fuck and just try to make the song from their imagination into reality.

I am not sure what the right way is, since the artform I myself want to get good at is writing , but there I have seen people with a lot of theoretical education from universities completely miss the point many times aswell.

The last comment with artists that are baffled by character studies reminded me a lot of that.

I wonder if it comes down to orderly and instinctual people, if those are two different valid styles, or wether one is actually better.

In my opinion, Kiara needs to (needs to, the 'will' part is still being determined) be the first to reach 1M.

This is for two main reasons:

1. If Kiara does not reach 1M first, this board (and perhaps /hlg/ a well) will become forever unusable, because whenever a post about Kiara is made thereafter, people will go 'Haha, where's your million now, chickenfags?', not to mention how many threads along those lines will be created (and seeing how permanent Kiara-threads are, those 'haha, you were the last one to reach 1M' will be here forever).

2. After trying and failing to make a name for herself for 10+ years, getting to 1M last (after a supposedly 'lazy' artist) will shatter her, and not even in a way you could be smug or make jokes about.

With that being said, both of them deserve to reach 1M in a timely manner, because - and many seem to forget this - they're still doing infinitely better than most people here.

As a lit dropout I can tell you this: It purely depends on whether you can actually recognize what you're learning. Theory isn't about giving you models to create, it's about giving you models you can recognize in things you're reading. College isn't going to teach you how to write, it's going to teach you how to read. The best part about it, for me, is that it allows you to expose yourself to great quantities or material. Some of my favorite writers I wouldn't have known about if I hadn't gone to college -- but the same can be said of having gone on /lit/. The push has to come from you. If you find something interesting go check it out, even if it's just a single name. Don't be intimidated by the famous or the infamous. Write about what you think is important and in the way you find beautiful, exciting or refreshing. But don't expect your studies to do the work for you, because they're the other part of the equation. And don't be worried about trying again, whether you're reading or writing.

I recently started learning an instrument because I felt I wasn't really listening to music as well as I could. It's going slow but I'm seeing progress. That's something that's also important: if you can recognize you're getting better things go a lot more smoothly.
