Yes mint is great as your first Linux. It comes ready to use out of the box and you won't have to deal with usual linux bullshit with it. Just make sure to check the option to install non-free packages during os installation. You will most likely need them anyway and installing them manually afterwards is an unnecessary chore. Also make sure to follow instructions on the welcome screen after installation and to update your system.
