It occurs to me that slow and steady doesn't really apply to Nijisanji.

Nijisanji had the first mover advantage in JP and immediately flooded the market which didn't give their talents enough time to build their own subculture. They also forcibly aqcuired fans by streaming Apex everyday, an audience that's known to be fickle.

Hololive however went for the slow and steady approach by debuting generations more slowly, which allows them to build up the brand as "this talent is guaranteed to be quality".

They've grown their subculture to the point that there's no need for the fans to ever venture outside of it, because they will be eventually exposed to a Holo talent that's more to their taste. The fanbase are loyal because they weren't built on a fad.

To put children's content on Youtube in context; last year, there is a channel that had over one BILLION views in a single WEEK. Even at the lowest CPMs imaginable that's fucking preposterous CPM revenue.

Of course we all know that a channel like that is an extreme outlier, but in general the overall viewership numbers for amount of time/effort put in per video is a world apart from what you see in the Vtuber world. They debuted at frankly a piss poor time. Right after council had just recaptured many lapsed Holofans who either hadn't found an Oshi in myth or just wandered off due to a lack of streams.
If they had waited until November to debut wave 3, that would have given Obsydia more time to build up their core + more people to lapse off of HoloEN after the debut hype of Council. However, the timeline for NijiEN management seems to have been to get wave 3 out asap and get ready for Wave 4, to the detriment of wave 3 imo.
