In Japan, anime art is normal to many. Getting on stream with an anime png was normal before vtubing was a thing. Having an anime character or original persona as a streaming persona is also normal. But in the West, anime men who aren't Goku are considered gay. Even if most of Kuzuha's content is for the bros, he's still regarded as gay fujobait because everyone in the West or non JP countries who makes the effort to learn Japanese to watch his and his male colleague streams are majority female. And this is for corpo males.
Indie western male vtubers not only don't have "gay designs" (i.e., it's bara (gay), or something non-human) they're overly sarcastic or nonchalant which doesn't pull in female viewers. And at that point, if girls want to watch male streamers but don't know Japanese, they aren't trawling for 2 views, they either become clipfags for vtubers or watch 3DPD streamers.

Take a look at Issei Kai, Uzuki Tomoya or Ais Riale's chats sometime. Majority female and you can tell just from how they write. Issei Kai even refers to his chat as "girls" on occasion. agree with all of this. a lot of the quality eng clips are very obviously made by women. i feel like teetee clips in general are translated more often and get more engagement (i have no numbers this is just said out of my ass from looking at comment sections), and it's not surprising in the case of male vtubers that the primary audience for such clips would be women.
