I don't know if she feels this quite as deeply, but being free from the harsh expectations of your parent culture (especially one as strict as Japan's) is strangely liberating. Being completely fluent in English would allow her to live abroad indefinitely, which would make her more or less free, if she does indeed feel that way about it.
