VR is semi-Niji, compared to other international branches.

Why is it even a given that you have to keep up with everyone? If you're into the people and the natural friendships they form then you don't have to care about 10 people at most.
If you're into the packaged product (aka hololive) then I can see why you'd be interested in what everyone is doing, though you'd only be shallowly involved.
But is that really more fun than being deeply familiar with the story of a tightly knit subset?

If you think about it this way, the nijisanji headcount doesn't matter. In a way it's positive, because you have a bigger selection. Then again, there's thousands and thousands of indies and other corps to choose from too, just not with the same support structure.

2019 was peak hololive. There's only so much a corp can scale before it becomes a soulless hydra with too many talking heads to give a shit about.

Personally, I think there's just the right amount of indos after id3, just the right amount of EN's, and way too many JPs. Hololive is so JP heavy it both imbalances the branches and inflates the chuba roster beyond the limits of people's ability to give a fuck.

I uniornically prefer a loose assortment of small chuba companies interacting with one another over a giant centralized mega-roster where all chubas are relatively homogenous in terms of content and corporate culture. The Nijisanji model of just dumping every chuba under the same umbrella was a mistake. At the very least, they should be in completely different branches of no more than 10 or so chubas, all defined by a strong thematic synergy and focused around pandering to a specific niche.

I'm just so tired of the "lolsorandom grab bag of designs and themes" approach. Just give me some fancy gacha character designs with a unifying theme like the kind you'd normally find released together in the same banner. I kind of just want unironic anime characters now, with wholesome non-cringe kayfabe that's not too pretentious, and real method acting instead of just dank irony. If I have to sit and watch yet another slice of life "cute girl doing cute girl things" chuba, it'll be the last vtuber I ever watch.

Mayuzumi's kinda like that. His character is pretty much the "cool sarcastic kuudere guy" and I think he does a really great job with his deadpan delivery too. He rarely breaks his character and so when he does it, it's actually funny. Iirc he also used to have an acting class, so that's probably why he can pull it off greatly.
Also the Nijis have been debuting chuubas with thematic designs too for a while with the EN branches, Thronez, and VALZ (kinda). Unfortunately they don't really give a shit about lores or kayfabe tho.
