If you knew anything about the veterinary field you’d also know no one has time to take off more than a day and the rate of suicide is so high because everyone suffers from severe compassion fatigue which is why I probably feel little to no compassion for people who get a pet like a hamster and don’t expect it to die in a month.

And anecdotal evidence, but when I was a boy and my experienced vet mother, who ran two clinics, had to put down our dog who was comatose and riddled with cancer, I had to tell her to stop keeping it alive and euthanize it because she was in denial, and she was miserable for weeks after. She'd put down thousands of animals by that point, and has put down thousands more in the years since.

I worked in a dog rescue for awhile and had to constantly deal with dying puppies who had too many parasites/too young and numerous for proper treatment and I'd always get tasked to bury them in mass graves out back.

Dealing with pet death takes a toll on you if you've never experienced it before.
So many people, especially women, are insulated to this type of thing, which is why they get cognitive dissonance as a teen and a lot of them become reactionary vegans/vegetarians.
