Well, it certainly seems like they are going all out at least. Seems like we're reaching final YAB territory. I still feel like they should've gone the buy route and backed one of the big 2 and give them the games permission with superchats on, more covers to work with, and improve the tech for rigging and give them new costumes so they can bury the competition instead of trying to create it from scratch. Add new ones along with a current already established ones instead of an all new one with no brand recognition other than being owned by Sony. Remember when Crunchyroll-hime was hot on here and see where she is now? I'd expect a similar thing to happen where everyone is excited for that new car smell and finally go back to their old ride because it's familiar and what they know best.

It seems it will be JP-only, unlike CR-hime. Few of us can read moon-runes, so communicating with the streamer and chat is a hassle for all sides.

Hololive built a character premise and gave people freedom to build themselves.
They then capitalize on the appeal of their members.

Sony is trying to do it backwards by creating media to market with fully written and designed characters being played by people.

Studio vtubers with a full kayfabe have already been done, they were the norm before the current format of more independent streamers took over.

It's really interesting to see differences in perspective on this side of the world.
A lot of people in this thread is saying they're doing it the corporate way by marketing their brand image instead of letting the talents themselves sell it, but what would you do if you were Sony?
If the news of Sony being greedy faggots in the past is so widespread here, do you really think the situation is better in Japan? Unless they sell it big, the talent pool willing to take their chances will be smaller, and so the audience.
Also you have to remember that vtubing in the west is still relatively niche with heavy emphasis on parasocial relationships and GFE, and while the same things do exist in Japan their culture makes them see "anime" stuff in a more ordinary light and vtubers as a wider range of entertainers/streamers that doesn't have the stigma we have here.
