I'll break it down autistically. People enjoy the stream. It makes them feel good. It's an evolutionarily beneficial instinct to reciprocate when someone does something that makes you feel good, because the instinct is such that if you do so, they have more incentive to make you feel good in the future. It might not be logical, but the instinct exists. Which means that some people feel happier when they give money, which also implies that they feel sadder than they should be if they don't. These people want to maximize their happiness, therefore they give money.
If they give suggestions to nudge the streamer towards a game or a way to conduct the stream, it might also improve their stream experience in the future, because at least it puts the idea into the streamers' heads when they read the SC, and may also put the idea into chat's heads for them to regurgitate down the line and influence the streamer to cate to their specific tastes.
You may want people on this board to not feel happy by giving their money away, either because you believe the money would make them happier if it was spent in anorther way, or because you have a delusional fantasy that if this viewpoint is pushed far enough, vtubers will receive not enough money and die out. The former is a totally fine viewpoint but I somehow doubt that people on this board really give a shit about other anons. The latter will not happen. Serious answer for this and other forms of service and entertainment. The future of a lot of things is micro transactions and subscriptions. Games do it software does it and services like ride share and food delivery do it. On top of that the future of entertainment is much more distributed you no longer need a large corporation sponsoring you to get going. In the case of vtubers and the people that pay them I’d say years ago if this had been thought of before the domination of streaming a cable company would have done this. Many people would have watched because it’s entertaining and the creators would have just been paid that way. Now people can bootstrap these things either independently or through smaller companies through the internet and use micro transactions for payment. As to why anyone would specifically give money to vtubers over titty streams I’ll say again because it’s actually entertainment. It may not be for you but you can deny work goes into creating the models the personalities and the activities
