I doubt there will be any giant crash and burn doomsday phenomenon that kills all of vtubing from one day or the other. in fact, I don't think vtubing will even die. Hololive, Nijisanji and the like will all eventually fall apart and disband, overshadowed by other things, but just like pirate radio stations, videogame streamers, public television and podcasts, now that the technology is here, people will continue to do it until the end of time.
This chapter of our lives will close in time, in particular I predict Hololive will fold once their talents graduate en masse (which may not even be caused by drama but just by them naturally outgrowing the career, at worst it may be precipitated by a holo dying of an illness or something) and they decide to simply say goodbye rather than run a replacement scheme.

How many Youtubers are still big from 10 years ago? Not started out 10 years ago but were big then and still big now. Youtube had an event back then called Youtube Live and pretty much only Bo Burnham is still around and that's because he graduated to real work.

To me its slowly dying, before Hololive EN the world of Vtubers (at least for the western community) was watching these JP girls engage in their own unique culture. Western fans would watch translations and they would enjoy it, it was different to what they/we were used to. But after Hololive EN debut the western community just gave up on enjoying the JP culture, they just defaulted to watching what they already understand.
