For newfriends and fa/tg/uys: this is a Chronicles of Darkness (CofD) homebrew being played by the fabulous ladies of Hololive English, running under the Hunter: the Vigil module. As most of the players are new to the world of tabletop RPGs, this campaign is being played as more of learning experience, with fun and entertainment the primary goals.

THE CAST:

>Mori Calliope
as THE STORYTELLER.
Everyone's beloved, buxom, pink-haired, adorably awkward rappin' reaper. A solid journeyman in playing tabletop, she is the acting GM and organizer of this campaign.
>Takanashi Kiara
as TIARA
An explosively extroverted phoenix and savvy owner of the moderately popular fast food franchise, Kiara Fried Phoenix (KFP). Her experience in TTRPGs is limited to a small amount of DnD played as a child. Her character is Tiara, a nobly born foreigner with a talent for handguns and communicating with birbs, particularly her pet owl, Uhu.
>Ninomae Ina'nis
as YUUL
A soft-spoken, sweet-natured priestess of the Deep Ones, also a talented artist whose character renditions has fueled the flood of Huntermyth fanart. A newbie in the realm of TTRPGs. Her character is Yuul B. Alwright, a sleep-deprived college grad student with a talent for academics, crafts, and vehicular homicide.
>Amelia Watson
as WATOTO
An animal-loving time traveler and detective with a rough-and-tumble approach to life. Yet another newcomer to the realm of TTRPGs. Her character is Watoto, a paranoid, conspiratorial dealer of herbal concoctions and drugs who holds his own with rough street charisma and his fists.
>Gawr Gura
as SCOUT
An infectiously amiable shark, long-time resident of the underwater kingdom of Atlantis. She is also new to TTRPGs, but don't let that fool you, her roleplay and improv performance so far has been nothing less than masterful. After going through multiple drafts and iterations, she has settled upon the party's final character: an illiterate, tough-as-nails country blacksmith named Scout, a melee and survival powerhouse.

Questions / comments / speculations
Link any pertinent Huntermyth-related questions here so they can be easily answered.

This idea picked up some interest in a previous thread (and elsewhere), but how would you anons like to see the party do an hour-long debrief stream? Just a short, laid back intermission session where the party returns to HQ and comes to grips with what the hell they just went through. Amidst spending their experience for the viewers to see (and maybe elaborating on the justification), Yuul could put her mental skills to work doing some research, Watoto could cultivate some helpful greenery, and Tiara and Scout could shop around for a replacement company car or something. i think a mini-session like this would work wonders; the girls could just shoot the shit, chat OOC more than usual, ask questions if needed, and complete their pre-mission prepwork without having to try and rush it all in another 3-4 hour stream. Also Calli wouldn't have to mega-prep for it, as it would be pretty laid back.

So far, who else in the Holo / vtuber community would be a good fit for Mythbreakers, should positions open up? So far the following have expressed interest in TTRPG, if not Huntermyth specifically:
>Reine
>Haachama
>Anya
>Risu (possibly)
>Fauna

This is a bad idea, but what would be a good SC to send to them seeing if they'd be open to giving us a try? Timing would have to be optimal as well. No point in asking if all of Myth are going to sign on for season 2.

Most importantly, why does literally everyone want to bang Yuul? Don't get me wrong I'm down for it too, but geez, is Calli trying to say something here?

Got the character info updated. I played with trying to give them a faint Hunter: the Vigil background that would mimic the original character sheets, but it looked too shit. Just went with a somber gray fog effect. Beauty in simplicity.

Poor Tiara still rocking that gunshot wound from her tutorial.

I've never played a TTRPG in my life. It's been so long since we got introduced to the Homestead Bar but I remember Madam M talked about """experience potions.""" Did Calli just scrap that stuff for the Beats system or can they fit that stuff in as well? Other than getting new missions and I guess equipping, it seems like there was a whole lot put into all the intricacies of the bar and the people there but no actual purpose for it.

The experience potions were a very strange thing. I hope they're been dropped, because it's retarded. The idea was to make experience somehow easier to grok, and to make the bar more important.

Totally understandable. The gap between sessions 2 and 3 proper was a hellscape of bad luck and external events kicking the collab back more and more. Keeping the general up wasn't feasible after so many dry weeks, but it's clear sailing from here on out. Council dayboo'd and are able to stand on their own, Myth had their anniversary, and most everyone's had some good vacation time to R&R (hopefully).

Battletech is Combat math. it is a game so lost in the 80's there are 5 steps to each case of weapons fire and a page of charts needed to play.
It is the last game the clowns have not taken over, so it's the last home of all the old guard gamers in 2020+

as for the choices? oh, hell yes.
--some mechs have names that tell you what they do.
--many mechs have memes literally waiting to be found in their name, if not their function.

specific oshi's:
--Wasps, Stingers are the most basic of mechs. if you want a little classier, go Phoenix Hawk or Shadow Hawk
--Revenant has no human pilot on board
--Urbanmech is highly lauded, but it's rarely useful outside base defense. Flea is harmless.
--Atlas will beat shit up.
--Marauder is one classy yet lethal beast, but is also strangely comfy.
--Anubis mech is very feminine, it's even built by the 'girls' faction.
--Puma mech is low slung and has an utterly flat top surface.
--Hollander is a tiny fucker with a big gun.
--Catapult mechs have Giant missile launcher bays
--the Griffon is one of the classic mechs, but is kind of gentle. Hard to pass one up though.
--Jenner has a very certain look to it.
--Grasshoper mech has a little bit of everything, and is fun.
--The Cicada and Locust mech: they are small, fast, and cute. and, not what you expect.
--everybody owns a goddamn Timberwolf. you will end up in it's cockpit at least once.
--One of the most Operator mechs ever is the Mad Cat II. hated by purists, it's a lethal machine with sex appeal.
--Wapeta mech is a bizarre mix of jet fighter and mecha. also seen as a villain.
--Black Knight is a high-tier brawler mech, it literally has a sword and board version.
--Charger is classified as an assault mech, but it's mostly harmless.
--with 2 fists and a mega-shoulder gun, the Hunchback gets in close and pounds ass.
--Orca is the biggest mecha in the entire game. Period.
--Sagittaire is a trap for newbs, but a slick machine in expert hands. it's cruel and precise.

I would agree with you on WoD, but some of the old systems had great potential if misused properly.

Seeing the Council play Star Trek Adventures would be Cool, esp. if Sana was made captain.
Good other choices would be Shadowrun, Savage Worlds, Tales from the Loop, and Doctor Who RPG

Watoto put me off at first, but he's grown on me more. Amelia is good at staying in character, and serves as some genuine comic relief without coming off as forced or cringe. What hasn't grown on me is Amelia's horrendous understanding of the game. Compared to all the others, Watoto is actually pretty well rounded for lots of situations; Amelia simply doesn't utilize the skills and merits she's chosen.

Mori spent minutes giving an introduction to WoD that explains it takes place in the modern day in a normal town with unknown supernatural creatures lurking in the shadows. Everyone else understood this concept just fine, but somehow she decided she would make a gremlin-like man that grows literal magic mushrooms. Those first couple sessions with the deus ex mushroom moments were rough, but I'm thankful Mori was able to create an environment that Watoto fit into.
Her misunderstanding in the character creation stream combined with not settling on an official Watoto design has lead to some wild art like this >>10673761 which is mainly what bothers me now.

He's referring to the Dark Lady. Gura's initial PC was a blind assassin masquerading as a courier with maxed out Dex, Wits, and Manipulation. She thought she could manipulate the shadows around her and be extremely stealthy. It was both That Guy / Coldsteel sort of character, and totally out of context for Hunter: the Vigil. Gura and Calli have done the most off-screen discussion of the TTRPG than all the others, and Gura readily accepted that this wasn't an urban D&D. She spent the most time drafting up her final character, and it shows.

Just as an aside, I don't think the Dark Lady is a horribly stupid idea. Just very out of place for WoD.

Only out of place for Hunter, it'd work in other games. As a Khaibit or Lygos it'd be pretty fun, same with a Changeling, you could pull off something similar with a Bound, an Uratha could mostly work for it, obviously Mage has no problem there, a Deviant would work, the rest not so much but it's not a concept that is out of place for WoD.

It's only inappropriate for Hunter though, it's a concept that would have worked in most other games. The messenger idea isn't anything special in the context of a prelude game IMO. It's got really good potential for stuff like Network Zero though, especially if you do a Midnight Roads chronicle, and in the games where the shadow stuff can be more relevant it works out really well. A Khaibit or Lygos Dragon that is a courier of important research they don't digitise is a fun idea, Nomads would be great for that if everyone was on board there.

"Shake anyone to witness" is what Breaking Points are there to simulate. Shaken is one of the main Conditions you get from Breaking Points, which you get pass or fail. So if you see something happen in a game and think that a PC would likely feel Guilty, Shaken, or Spooked then a Breaking Point should have happened. Just because Tiara suffered an extreme thing that caused a Breaking Point doesn't mean everything that causes them is of similar intensity. Breaking Points cover a really wide gamut of encounters. Chronicles of Darkness, the game not the line of games, uses a very basic version of Breaking Points but even then witnessing a violent supernatural murder is going to be a Breaking Point for most characters, and a pretty harsh one at that.

Hunter: The Vigil 2e does do things very differently on this front but they're not using those rules so it's not exactly relevant. Would still have been a Breaking Point under those systems but a lot of the specifics are different, I can get into it if you care.

Sin-Eaters tend to be about helping ghosts move on, creating cults and secret societies dedicated to their ideas and ideals on death, and trying to unfuck the Underworld a little.

They're very cool. I'd like to see them in combat too, they've got a host of really fun abilities to play with, and I want to see one get shot to shit. Thanks to being bound to a Geist their bodies hold Plasm, physical ghost goo suffused with the power of the dead, and they can use it to bounce back from any injury. So long as they've got plenty of Plasm to spend they're impossible to kill. You can shove a grenade in their mouth and pull the pin and they might take no damage on their Health track.

That's not to say their head doesn't fucking explode though, because there will be a shower of vicersa as you'd expect. It's just that when you look back at them thick milky-white ooze will be where their flesh should be, it holds the shards of their skull together, and recreates the bits that can't be found. Instead of what happened in the mansion, when Tiara shot out an eye, the Sin-Eater doesn't really care. They lose an eye and a thick fluid will seep into the wound and makes them a new one. So long as they have the Plasm they can spend as much of it as they need to downgrade damage. Sin-Eaters also have in-built Plasm sources. So there is really great fodder for some gruesome descriptions.

If you do manage to kill one, they really don't like to stay dead. Their Geist becomes unleashed and has free reign to fuck you up. If you don't completely destroy the Geist then the Sin-Eater just come back, even if you turned them to a fine red mist. However, there are ways around that. If you kill one of the Bound in a fashion resonant with their original death, they stay dead, if you kill one with their Geist's Bane then they also stay dead. Damage dealt with their Geist's Bane can also not be mitigated as above.

Their abilities are also really cool aesthetically, it's stuff like merging with your Geist and having it distend your flesh into weaponry, Plasmic tendrils that attach to people like puppet strings to control them, thick fog that clings to them and makes them ghostly in appearance and ability, and more besides. Hopefully she'll look into 2e rules for this if she goes that route. 1e had some great ideas but is an incredibly clusterfuck.

Vampires are about at the bottom of the splats by rough power-level. It's not super cut and dry but kind of looks sort of like this.
>Mage > Mummy > Demon >>> Werewolf > Promethean > Changeling > Bound* > Vampire > Deviant > Hunter.
Those are just averages and you can pretty much make any splat beat any other really. At least for the stuff below Demon. The Bound might be better on average than a Vampire but it really depends on what you've chosen to give them. The Bound get a lot of non-combat stuff where as a Vampire's powerset (Disciplines) can all be bent towards combat with the exception of Auspex.

Both have their upsides and downsides though, while a Bound has amazing regenerative abilities they still take lethal damage from firearms and weapons, Vampires just take Bashing. But Vampires take Aggravated damage from fire while the Bound only take Lethal. Buut Vampires healing more Bashing per Vitae than a Bound can downgrade per Plasm, but the Bound is downgrading the damage as it comes in, meaning they take less, where as the Vampire is healing it after it's dealt. Buuut the Bound can't heal damage after it's dealt through baseline traits. Buuuuuut Vampires go torpid when they take full lethal damage which doesn't happen to the Bound and they come back after they die. That's just the differences in Health and healing too, that's not getting into powerset, merits, nor other traits they may possess. Always tends to be a lot of stuff like that. If you want to hear more about healing you can see this long post I did, although it notably doesn't go into the Bound.

*this is what Sin-Eaters are. GtS is notable for you not playing the first bit of the name. You don't play a Geist you play a person bound to one, which are called the Bound and Sin-Eaters are the PC variety of them. Those that protect the dead from things like Reapers and the Underworld are Sin-Eaters, there are other kinds of Bound out there. This sort of divide is found in almost most all the games. I can go over that if you care, or want a bump for the thread.

Geist sounds pretty awesome. Are the hierarchies among Bound similar to Vampires, with older ones being stronger, or is it based more on strength of the Geist?

Between Huntermyth and all the descriptions from this thread I feel bad for sleeping on WoD for so long. I'm branched out to other none D&D systems, but I always passed WoD because of the version confusion and the erp reputation. I hope I can convince my group to play it next.

I'm very tired this might be a ramble.
>Geist sounds pretty awesome. Are the hierarchies among Bound similar to Vampires, with older ones being stronger, or is it based more on strength of the Geist?
Neither really, Sin-Eater society is fairly disparate. Lots of different cults and societies with ideologies that have enough common ground to not cause constant conflict and facilitate the sharing of knowledge. Each of these societies, or Krewes, has it's own internal structure. There is a guy at the top, but he might just be smart and charismatic rather than old and power. Might be chosen by election, chosen by the last boss, a duel, or trial, or any sort of rite of succession you can think of. As there are people at the top, there are people at the bottom too. But that sort of thing doesn't really stretch out past the Krewe itself. A major theme of Geist is community and that's sort of how things work for them, they're not a neo-feudal society like half of Vampire tends to be, they're a community. They're a very fun one at that. Sure every Krewe has it's territory, it's not always all buddy-buddy. and you'll likely have a few secrets or two, but you all look out for each other when it counts. If one of the Bound gets killed by another then it's an eye for an eye and most Krewes will pitch in so long as they're not against you or for the other side. 1e also had some rules for Tier 2 and 3 Krewes in much the same way as Hunter does, but it's not really a big thing there. Only a couple of pages on it, although 1e's core book does contain a good deal of information that didn't make it into 2e so it's worth a read either way.

They don't even really have a masquerade like most other splats, at least not in the same fashion. Even then not all of them do. Sin-Eaters aren't really a secret, they're just a secret society. Even then that terminology can be strained to breaking point. It's often less "Sin-Eaters don't let people know they exist" and more "Sin-Eaters don't let people know what they do". Especially on the bottom rungs. You might be part of a Krewe without knowing they're anything more than so strange club. The lore reason for why is pretty simple, if you notice the dead then the dead notice you. They've also got more than their fair share of enemies if things were public, any two-bit necromancer, concerned citizen, worried politician, or religious official might not be so eager on letting people talk to the dead, or they might be all too eager to do it themselves, or hell, even join them. Krewe Archetypes like the Mourners and Necropolitians both seek worlds where the dead and the living are always in contacts as well.

On the note of community Geist is the most upbeat of any WoD or CofD game out there. I wasn't calling them the party splat upthread for nothing. It's Carnivale and samba beats, Dia del los Muertos and sugar skulls, Halloween bonfires and candy apples, riots of colour and music and all that's good in life. It's a game about death, and that always involves tragedy, but it's not a game of wallowing in angst it's about celebrating the life that lead up to it and all the pleasures thereof. You died once, you're going to die again, but for right now you're alive and life has a lot to offer. There are a lot of poor saps who died, stayed dead but left something of themselves behind. So you'll help those move on to something else if you can, because Geist is a game of empathy as well. It's not just the dead you'll be helping either, you got a second chance to right the wrongs of your own life. So there is always hope that things will be better, you'll be healing broken things where you find them, and taking joy in all that life has offered and has yet to offer. There will be rough patches and hardships, as there are in any story, but at the end of the day it's all about hope, joy, and empathy and righting the wrongs of the past to make something better in the future.

>Between Huntermyth and all the descriptions from this thread I feel bad for sleeping on WoD for so long.
No time to start like the present. Just pick up a book that sounds fun and give it a read. I'd personally start with something like Vampire the Requiem 2e, Werewolf the Forsaken 2e, or Changeling the Lost 2 those are great and easy to get into. Hell, even Deviant the Renegades if you think your group is good with some of the complexities of that game. All of them work more or less, although I'd warn against Demon, Mummy, and Mage unless you're very comfortable with a lot of complexity, weirdness, and games that ask a little more than most for RP. All the oWoD Revised/20th stuff is great too if that's your thing. Depends what really appeals to you and your group. If you care to tell me what you like, what you don't like, and the sorts of themes and ideas that sound cool from WoD I can narrow it down for you.
