The issue is that before that, the EN managers were at least "organic", in that their characters & lore developed naturally over time between the talents and the fans.
The former dropping some behind the scenes info here and there, and the latter piecing things together, creating fanart, which in turn made the talents share more about them (for example this is how we got the split from a singular formless "Enma" to the split triple Enma/Jenma/J-chad). Everybody had fun, nothing was "serious" or corpo-manufactured.
