saw some anon post picrel and got me thinking, what are some old pre-vtubing uses of the concept?

Eggwardo probably takes the award for oldest "vtuber" and others like Kyoko Date and the top example in picrel picks seem pretty feasible.

Basically anyone making videos using the tts program Loquendo, i mostly speak in the past sense because barely anyone does it anymore, most big ones have switched to their real voice or just abandoned YouTube altogether, since Loquendo is monotonous, in order to show emotion it wasn't uncommon to have recolored characters from anime and cartoons doing various facial expressions, sometimes they'd even skip the recoloring and just straight up use anime screenshots, or random memes and images, another common choice was walfas, i feel that this video explains it (Mostly its decadence) better than i could, it's in Spanish, but so is most if not all Loquendo
