when you first start out as a vtuber, you should be streaming as a png to see if you can even hold a consistent and regular schedule for a month. if you can't break a month's worth of regular streaming, everything else you invest would be a waste. it's advice meant to save you money so you don't blow $1k on a model+rig only to find out you don't enjoy streaming all that much.

following that one month, you'll have a better understanding of what kind of streamer you are, what kind of content you enjoy creating and where you want to take your channel. you can start to design and work out a model that'll suit you as a personality and channel content during that time and get one commissioned later.

i'm thinking of commissioning an avatar with the idea of being a doll-person with black button eyes (think Coraline). what sort of clothing would you recommend this character wear (male)? i have some ideas in mind but i'm wondering if any anons have some spicy concepts i didn't think of.

i'm going for a creepier vibe, so i was thinking a stitched together raincoat with coatbuttons that look like eyes (to contrast the button eyes and to add to the creepy factor). if i go with this, i'd put in the extra dosh to have the eyes on the coat move with the eyetracking in sync with the button eyes. whatya think anons? i'm not copying another established vtuber unintentionally am i?

i don't know, just wanted to bounce it off some people. obviously the design isn't in everyone's taste, it admittedly is a bit edgy, but nothing wrong with trying to get some feedback. perhaps a stray anon would have a really interesting comment to add that i didn't think of.

Try playing a game with a lot of characters and create a voice for each of them the best you can, it'll help you start to work on figuring out how to begin changing your tone.

Anyone have any opinions on smaller corporate groups? (Prism, Phase, Cyberlive, Kawaii, Tsunderia, etc.)

What sets them apart from each other? Do any look more promising than the others? Which have stricter permissions or better connections? And so on. I’d like to audition eventually but I’m not sure which to keep an eye on/hold out for.

Prism is very much going the Holo route, very idol and seiso-ish. Phase Connect is the yabai company by virtue of having Pippa alone but they seem to have a lot of freedom with their content and them being in notJapan means they have a lot of freedom with game permissions as well. Cyberlive have their policies very open and Lumi has talked extensively about how she's happy with the company, they also don't seem to stall with merch like everyone else. Kawaii is very much carried by the fact that they managed to get some seriously dedicated talent and everyone is growing at a good rate even though they seem to not have much support. Everyone in Tsunderia seems to be happy about where they are but I'd prepare to join them with the mindset of having to grind for your life because of their slow growth.

tl;dr Kawaii-Prism for seiso-types that have good growth lately, Tsunderia-Cyberlive-Phase for slow growth but more freedom.

I know Tsunderia has been around for the longest, will any of the others maybe eclipse them this year? Prism seems the most promising (and I like their character designs the best) but I’m not really into the idol model.

I heard that all of them are running at little to no profit margins (if anyone has a source on their finances, I would like to see it though) so it’s always a fear that the company might go under…

for the clothing it depends on the age you are trying to portray, i think for a doll a good victorian outfit is the way to go to make it look creepy, make it a little worn out, keep earthy colors, but make them dull so it gives an old vibe, the eye buttons and button eyes sounds very good! and the overall vibe reminds me of the game identity V so you might want to check that out to avoid accidentally copying a character or to get some inspo. good luck!

Almost everything I've done so far has been practice for the real thing. I have a plan for a debut, and a somewhat fun idea to keep kayfabe and a gimmick going. I know this place hates lore, but I think it won't be that stupid, though it'll depend on my writing skills and junk. I get a fair amount of compliments on my voice, so even if it's cringe, itll at least be nice to listen to, apparently.

Things are finally getting real after staring at the model for so long doing nothing. This sounds like a good gimmick for a week, maybe 2 weeks, but it's going to get stale incredibly fast after that. This is content that can better be summed up with a 10 minute video of silly highlights as a youtube video.
>Are there any games that could help me with growth? How do I identify those?
This one depends on what kind of content you want to make, what kind of audience you want to grow, and what talents or skills you have. Do you have a good voice? Try playing some short visual novels or narrator over story heavy games. That new Ace Attorney game has been very popular with a lot of streamers and vtubers doing silly voiceovers for the characters. Are you highly energetic and expressive? Maybe try some horror games with October coming up and showcase your energy through jumpscares and creepy atmospheric games. Are you highly knowledgeable about a game and can ramble on about tactics and strategies while also playing it? Go focus on those games you're good at.
>I feel like if I just picked the latest meme game that every big streamer is playing it'll be the same as maining a MOBA since everyone will go to the big vtubers/streamers instead.
This is just a meme. A new game has the draw of novelty. There will be more people going around looking for streamers playing a fresh game for the first time to be part of an experience again. Not so much for games that have been out for a decade.

I've considered for a decent while just starting to stream as a PNGtuber, but I think my voice is so huge a debuff that I'm legitimately ngmi. For the record, the voice is a bit like a young boy, with a strong accent on top of that. I *can* try to put a lot of expression in there, but first I have to ask if there even is a market for what could be mistaken for generic SEAmonkey gamer #61244. I'm aware that the first idea is to enjoy the process of streaming itself; just wondering if it's not "literally stillborn ambitions" territory.

Hah, yeah! I admit fully that this is partly the case. I've been tracking a ton of celebrities, and not gonna lie there's been a dearth of people with the whole "younger bishonen" voice. In fact, the only one I know of that has some degree of success is Mafumafu, and he's a bit of an outlier in terms of how skilled he is at singing.
Part of it is also knowing the hell of a backlash Justin Bieber had when he started out due to his voice - I'm not exaggerating when I say my voice is probably at Baby-tier if not worse due to aforementioned accent. YWNBAW and all, but if I don't have a voice fit for the manly male archetype, I'd have preferred it to be something that could be passably female.

good enough for the most part. there's some white static noise that you can probably filter out easy enough since it's consistent low level through the entire thing. you can use Reaper plugins in OBS and subtract that static noise. if you have a 2000 or 3000 series nvidia card, you can also use nvidia broadcast's noise suppression tool to clean it out. otherwise, it's clear and easy to understand.

In-person is very much preferred for voice lessons because there's more to it than just your voice. Your posture and breathing is also pretty important; those things are a little harder for your teacher to evaluate if you go with virtual classes only. Even if it's just one 30-min class a week, try to go in person. The rest is just applying what you've learned to practice.

I am unaware to continue from this, I feel like I have to be unethical to continue and I wish there was something else. I can get up to 4 or 5 viewers and sometimes they even give me some money. In a way I haven't broken even. Not that I expect that to happen, I have gotten 100 Bucks when I used 150 for my set up.

I wonder what else can I do other than multistream. I have watched other much more popular vtubers and I can't see what else they do. They have obviously a better set up. But they are not really have anything that makes them really better.

The very first thing you need to realize is that vtubing is streaming. And streaming is about entertaining viewers. At its core, you have to know what value you're providing to your viewers. What you're doing is asking someone to give up time out of their day and watch you. What is it that you are providing to them that they can't get from something else. The something else you're competing against are:
>other streamers, including face cam
>netflix, youtube, hulu
>twitter, reddit, dramaposting
>etc.
Everyone has something they can offer their viewers, it just takes some time to figure it out. It's really difficult because you've only ever seen life from your POV, so what seem like talents and gifts to others just appear as "default" settings to you.

Eventually, when you get larger and bigger, that value you provide to viewers will grow to the point where they'll start creating things for you like fanart, or even monetary donations and subscriptions. But that's way further down the line.

>> No.10443329

>>10442844
What are you specifically doing that would make viewers want to watch you? What are your viewers there for? Why do those 4-5 people watch you and not one of the hundreds of other vtubers? What are you offering them?
If you don't know, your first step is to figure that out.

"Just have fun" is good, but fun to me is sitting here silently playing games as much as it is chatting and streaming them. You need to learn to have fun in a way that is still enjoyable for people to watch and that usually means not playing "debuff games" unless it's something you can use to entertain. There's a few big (10k+ irl ones) that I can watch play games I would've never otherwise given a shit about, including Madden or League of Legends, because I enjoy their personality but seeing as large streamers like that you likely have a lot going on for you compared to a small no-name.
