Chess is an easy to learn, hard to master sort of game.
You said you only knew pawns? Well, bishops can move diagonally. Rooks can move horizontally or vertically. The queen is a combination of both. Knights can move in L-shaped patterns and can jump over other pieces. The king can move in any direction but only one space.
Here, you now know chess and you're already better than Ame and Kiara.

Yeah, but it's only some characters in particular. I thought she had that issue too, however I went and looked through her art and some of them are so drastically different I can't even tell it was made by the same person. When you see similarities, it's more of her style than anything else.

I used to hate designs of anime characters wearing tiny hats(pic related)m or worse, multiple small hats. Watching Kiara and her beret and chef´s hat combo has taught me to tolerate it a little bit, but she actually has stopped doing that recently opting for just the beret, which is honestly an improvement.
Looking this up on booru I find many pictures where the hat goes with an outfit that gives me idol-like vibes, such as glittery patterened vests, puffy, short multi-tiered skirts, tall boots and stuff like that. Is it possible the tiny hat is meant to be a"charm point" to attract attention?

Idol oufits as a whole are meant to attact attention, yes(and also, to use colors or a color spectrum to match with your fellow idols, see Momoiro Clover Z for example). But I meant the charm point as something that balances the outfit in way, makes the top equally attractive as the bottom the flashy skirt or bow I supoose, It´s sort of hard to explain.
I haven´t seen that many idol oufits with huge bows but the costumes in the Sailor moon musicals (which share a bunch of the idol aesthetics) have them even if you can´t seem the clearly in pic related, sorry.
